It looks like the last link I sent may had had had some problems I hope this helps Angela _http://www.turtletown.org/html/senate.htm_ (http://www.turtletown.org/html/senate.htm) Trail of Tears Senate Report - 1839 The trail of tears is the watershed event in tribal-american history. One fact is irrefutable, the native americans were moved from where they lived to a place that was decided for them. The largest body of the Cherokee people were moved from the lands in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and North Carolina to eastern Oklahoma. This document is a report to the Senate of the US and is finally issued to them on February 25, 1839 for review. The rosters are very interesting. The first roster is made up of the people the government paid to "escort" the Cherokees to Oklahoma....and a number of them are Cherokee themselves. The second list is an accounting of monies owed or paid to Cherokees who were expatriated. The listings are extensive comprising of over a thousand names of beneficiaries of payment for lost properties in the East. We have no evidence that these monies were ever paid, but we have evidence that they were listed and the amounts they were owed was listed with them. A fertile ground for geneology researchers. To our knowledge, this is the only copy of this document on the net, transcribed or otherwise. Release is given to use these documents as you see fit. Information is only powerful when it is in the hands of people. Copy them, download them, use them as you wish. Compliments of Turtletown.org and the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, where this document now resides in their archives.

Good morning Judith, Thank you so very much for your enlightening answer to my query. I will contact the court house and see if I can find an answer to my problem. Thanks again, Jack -----Original Message----- From: REVJUDITHYOUNG@aol.com [mailto:REVJUDITHYOUNG@aol.com] Sent: Monday, July 11, 2005 11:53 AM To: OKGEN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [OKGEN ] Re: OKGEN-D Digest V05 #95 MAYBE OFF TOPIC BUT! Hi Jack, I didn't know anything but went to the county courthouse in the town (my home town ) where my Great Grandfather died in 1932 and they showed me how to use the indices and told me to look for a Final Decree (1934) . (They will do it for you and it only cost a few dollars more for the look up and copying etc). I had many records of all types to pull, marriage, deeds, warrenties, land patent info etc.... so they were nice enough to teach me how to search for anything I wanted and things that I didn't know existed uses the indices and old tome at that courthouse nothing was microfilmed etc. It was a gold mine! And I only paid for copying cost $1.00 a sheet but was priceless. So, look for a final decree it was a gold mine of genalogical informtion , mortgate papers w/ former wives, heirs, present wives, grandchildren that we didn't know existed who inherited and possibly should not have be named as heirsl ( we thought my mom was the only existing grandchild at that time & she was not named as an heir) ! And son in law's administrating and who was assigned and vested with what in the end!
