    1. IPP~Ross Roundtree about Charles M. Randell
    2. LeeSh
    3. Roundtree, Ross 43, home, 126: parents of, stepmother of 128; biography, Charles M. Rendall by, 126-128. Roundtree, Ross INTERVIEW Carl R. Sherwood interviewer Sept 4, 1937 Interview with Ross Roundtree, Texanna About Charles M. Randall Charles M. Randall was a prominent and well to do citizen of the Texanna vicinity. He has been actively identified with the development of what is now McIntosh county and experienced the hardships and even horrors of the early days in the Indian Territory. He was born April 10, 1860, in Copiah County, Mississippi. His father was Riley F. Randall: his grandfather, S.J. Randall, who was born in Glasgow, Scotland. His father taught school in Mississippi when a young man. He served four years in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, being a commissioned officer in the Cavalry of General Armstrong's brigade. He was captured by the enemy at the battle of Corinth and confined in prison at Rock Island, Illinois for about nine months; after his exchange he rejoined his command. He moved with his family to Texas in 1868, locating at Thornton, in Limestone County, where he was successful in the mercantile business and farming. He lived to the good old age of eighty-two years, passing away, March 19, 1905 in Thornton, Texas. He was a man of deep religious faith, an inheritance from his Scotch ancestors. Although not a member of any church until after sixty years of age, he was never found without a Bible in his pocket. He married Elizabeth Wamack, a native of Mississippi. To this union were born, Charles M. Inla. Oscar, Jarret G., Alma and John K. Charles M. Randall acquired a practical knowledge of books while young, in the public school of Thornton, Texas. At the age of eighteen years, he left his father's home and came to the Creek Nation, Indian Territory locating near Eufaula, in what is now McIntosh County. He engaged in buying and selling walnut timber for two years, moving the logs east of Eufaula to an inland town named Brooken, situated on the south side of the Canadian River in the Choctaw Nation. After his marriage to an Indian maiden of one-fourth Choctaw blood. he engaged in farming and stock raising. In 1806(8) he moved to Texanna, McIntosh County and clerked in the Forsyth Ogden general merchandise store. When Mr. Randall first located in Eufaula, the Creek nation was in a state of turmoil. The few white people now living there were desperate characters and were aided by the worst element of the Creek Indians for two years in their lawlessness. Mr. Randall served as deputy United States Marshall, and was associated with the capture of many criminals. He witnessed the hanging at fort Smith, Arkansas of eleven desperate men, ten of the were white, and the other an Indian. The Choctaw had a law in force making sorcery a felony, punishable by death after the third offence, and he saw three Indians tried and convicted under this law, and saw them shot. The parents of Ross Roundtree were renters from Mr. Charles M. Randall. The Roundtrees were share-croppers at Texann. Mrs. Jones, East of Texann, xxx Step mother of Ross Roundtree, also corroborated the statements in this interview. 3. Thanks for the links. Actually that's exactly what I'm doing........canvassing a cemetery. I've been working on & off of one for 8 yrs now. W/3 boys now its been hard to drive 35 min's into town to go do this cemetery. And at first I was writting down every head stone info. by hand to help both the cemetery owner (funeral owner) & those looking for family. The Cemetery I'm working on is currently online (someone had used the funeral records to post online) but the Funeral/Cemetery owner told me that the past records were incomplete & since I couldn't find a grave based on their info. that's why I started my project. As I said......I start w/writing down the names, but then decided that since I couldn't find a grave that supposedly is there but I couldn't find the headstone, that I'd take picture's of them to "match" & give a location. As I will be creating a "book" of sorts for the funeral home & anyone to look at & would like to eventually find a business willing to help create a "map" for the Cemetery for people to find the "sections" even more. So after I get a section down I will find a way to have it put online inconjunction w/the one that's already been listed. As just in the few months that I haven't been able to do it. I went back recently and some headstones (mostly the county bought plaque type ones) were ruined. I will pass on this info. to the funeral/cemetary owner as well so he can get them replaced and fill in the sunken graves. So its to help those searching & to help the funeral owner :) Hopefully it'll be helpful Alli :) No one page, mail list, link, library, repository or book has all the answers. 3. Hi, people I know of a small cemetery east of Newkirk, Kay County. It is on private land and the last time I looked for it, the cattle were too big for me to even try to take pictures of the remaining head stones. The cattle were there under the tree for shade. It is right on the corner of a mile section. I have no idea what it might have been named. 3. One needs to keep in mind that persons on a list may or may not live in the area of the list interest. I administer a list with that has 215 L and 84 D subscribers of which three live within the county. It's wise to just keep a copy of your query to refer back to down the road. I've received answers within 5 minutes and also 2 years after posting. One can also check the archives of a list to see if the original post made the list or if someone answered and you missed the posting. Go to: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ type in the list of interest. Fred Frederick M. 3. LOL Well, I wonder where they went to cause I've sent 2 or 3 since the 18th as that's when my Uncle died......actually sent some even before that & they have come back? Hmmmmm. Well, that would explain why I haven't ever got a response from anyone about that length of time. But if they aren't coming back as undeliverable? I wonder where they are going? Thanks for the link Gene, the obit won't be out until this wk (according to the lady at the Newspaper) so I'll check there tomorrow to see if its available yet. 3. No cause I didn't know what the libraries name was back, there our library here is no help. That's why I came here.....LOL I figured there might be someone that's dealt w/Nowata in some way that may have info. But i went to the OKWeb or whatever the name is (I forget) and emailed someone to see if they could help locate the name of the newspaper or a near by, Nothing yet. I have friends and family affected by the hurricanes that have hit that I've been trying to keep in touch w/so I know they are ok. And lost my Uncle last wk & have personal family issue's to deal w/so Genealogy hasn't been a priority & I've just recently started back into it. So I understand other priorities........just a bit dismayed as it use to be I'd get several people saying they'll help in someone. But that's ok, I found it along w/finding a website that list's all of the Cemeteries for Ok. some are online some aren't. So I look forward to going thru them. I am disappointed in the Chelsea one which apparently is an Okgen site as it only listed a few people buried in the Chelsea Cemetery that was taken from a book & I know there are tons more. But it was nice to see it was online...sort of. Thanks for the link......I'll check that out. Alli :) > Hi, Alli > Have you contacted the libraries? 3. I too, as Gracie mentioned have relatives in both Hurricanes paths. I have been tormented by Biloxi's destruction since I spent a year of training at Keesler AFB, as I know a LOT of other military veterans did too as I have done. Not to mention Texas and our family connections to research throughout the state. Sadly, I neglected the pages of inquiries all for full focus on the survivors of the Hurricanes. I didn't do it out of malice or non-interest in the subject, just to busy focusing on recovery.
