A trip to check on Mother took much longer than usual [she chose to sit on the floor instead of the sofa and no longer has the strength to get back up on her own] and when I finally got back I found that I'd lost my connection. 2. Harriette Jensen
    3. Hi, All. If you're interested in getting some background on any of your vets, the Military History page of the War, Peace and Security website <http://www.cfcsc.dnd.ca/links/milhist/index.html> is the most complete one I've seen. It covers all wars, world-wide, from the Peloppenesian War (431 B.C.) to the Persian Gulf War (1991) and has hundreds of links. I found it when I was looking for information on the Meuse-Argonne battle in WWI to give a little extra info for lookup I was doing in the Kay County Honor Roll & Service record. Besides battles, it has regimental histories, veterans organizations for the later wars, pictures, and a lot more. Harriette

    1. [OKGEN ] WW II Internet Sites
    2. Someone had requested some WW II Internet Sites. I found the ones I had used to find my uncle that was killed in WW II and have posted them below. It is best if you know what branch of the military he was in during the war. Through continual searching and sending queries to those sites that accept them I was able to meet men who new my Uncle and they furnished me with military papers, etc. <A HREF="http://ww2.vet.org/">Welcome To The WWII U.S. Veterans Website</A> http://ww2.vet.org/ <A HREF="http://nav.webring.org/cgi-bin/navcgi?ring=ww2;list;page=2"> World War II Web Ring</A> http://nav.webring.yahoo.com/hub?ring=ww2&list&page=2 <A HREF="http://www.askjeeves.com/main/metaanswer.asp?metaEngine=directhit&origin=0&MetaURL=http%3A%2F%2Fask%2Edirecthit%2Ecom%2Ffcgi%2Dbin%2FRedirURL%2Efcg%3Furl%3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eabmc%2Egov%2Fabmc4%2Ehtm%26qry%3DAmerican%2BWar%2BDead%26rnk%3D1%26src%3DDH"> ABMC War Dead</A> http://www.askjeeves.com/main/metaanswer.asp?metaEngine=directhit&origin=0& MetaURL=http%3A%2F%2Fask%2Edirecthit%2Ecom%2Ffcgi%2Dbin%2FRedirURL%2Efcg%3Furl %3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eabmc%2Egov%2Fabmc4%2Ehtm%26qry%3DAmerican%2BWar%2BDead%2 6rnk%3D1%26src%3DDH This last one is from ASK JEEVES, that's why it is so long, but it works. 2. Jack wrote:: Even after you remove an item from an active heat source it continues to cook from the residue heat built up in it. By dipping it in ice water you stop that cooking process immediately. Jack, you are exactly right. When processing fresh vegetables, I use lots of ice water. That cools them down making them taste better after they have been frozen not to mention making them easier to put in bags. Darlene

    3. I used to teach canning, freezing, breadmaking, etc. classes for Troy-Bilt Garden Way Company for an in house audience. This is the way I learned you should do it. For one it cools it down quick - so you're not sticking hot things in your freezer and I think it helps to keep it firmer. Plus it would make sense the quicker it freezes the fresher and better it'll be. | Why dip or put in ice water? | Alli | Subject: Re: [OKGEN ] CAULIFLOWER | | | > | > Don't forget after you blanche them, dip them in ice water, then drain and | > freeze. | > | > | > | > | > | Jack, | > | | > | I don't know why you couldn't freeze cauliflower as you can buy it | frozen. | > | When I used to freeze veggies I would blanch them first to kill the | > enzymes, | > | etc. With most veggies only do it for a short period so you don't remove | > the | > | nutrients.
