1. Is there a list of known Comanche Indians anywhere? Or what ever it maybe called. 2. If so, where should I look for it at? I was told today that my Native American blood is Comanche, not Cherokee. So I have been searching the wrong tribe all this time. At least I have had fun in helping others find their family. One other off genealogy question. How do you get the moth ball smell out of clothes? HELP Tina Knapp
Oh Tina! What a long wrong road, huh? I am learning the Cherokee language - just starting - and sure do hope I've got the right tribe. It would be confusing to learn another one! Good luck. Hi Jean, "Dordon or Dardon" may well be "Durden, Derden, or Darden". There was such a family in Perry County, Alabama prior to 1850. At least some of their inlaws moved to Milam County, TX around and prior to 1850. Isn't that fairly close to Brazos County, TX? Dose DAWES have all Indian tribes? Vickie Neill Taylor flip@okplus.com
Well, I have people tell me that Indian research is the most difficult to do, and I just don't understand that. Nor have I found it to be true. Indians surly have to be the most documented people in this country. They have been looked at, picked at, probed, accounted for, watched, etc, etc, etc, people of all times. And the very first place I head for in finding Indian facts is the agency that they belong to. If she was a Creek Indian then that's exactly where I would go, to the Creek Indian Tribe. I just bet you they have her listed down to her toenails. Having a roll number is your one main stumbling block that you don't have to worry about. Its finding that roll number that usually gives everyone so much trouble. An alternative route might be the Historical Society in OKC. They seem to concentrate on our Indian population. Another suggestion, check to see if RootsWeb has a Creek Indian list. You can find that out by going to RootsWeb home page, looking at the list of lists, check under Ethnic listings. That's where they keep the Indian lists. Might check Okmulgee County list too, that's the home base of the Creek Indian Nation, isn't it ? I know there is a Creek Museum in Okmulgee, she could even be listed there.
