    2. HI........no I didn't know that it was the 35th......I appreciate your helping. I'm having a lousy time wandering around on the web trying to connect with Texas cavalry units. If you don't mind sharing how did you locate them? I'm sure I'm just not asking the correct questions or some such ??? Thanks again, Sharyn

    3. That would be fun. I have tentative dates in May for Oklahoma City either the 22nd or the 23rd. If anyone is interested give me a destination I can find with instructions and I'd be more than happy to meet any of you for Coffee. :o) If my dates change, they'll change within the next 2 weeks and I'll make that announcement. This is a long overdue visit for me. With all best laid plans ... I'm being careful with this trip and trying NOT to say anything that will jinx it. :o) We're also planning on traveling to El Paso, Texas where relatives are located. It's a long overdue trip. 3. I find an Annie E. CANTWELL listed in the Oklahoma Confederate Pension Applications INDEX - reel 11, application 4520. Also see CANTRELL (one letter difference in the spelling - I always check those w/ close spellings to see if I recognize a given name) - Benjamin , G. C. and Maggie J. Nothing else listed since it is an index. Copies are available at the Oklahoma Historical Society and from The Oklahoma Department of Libraries Office of Archives and Records 200 Northeast 18th Street Oklahoma City, OK 73105-3298 -- 405-521-2502 -- 800-522-8116 -- Fax: 405-525-7804 I've had great success calling the Department of Libraries by phone to check the spouse name and area where the person of interest was living before spending $ on copies. 2. Dear List......Does anyone know a good source for Confederate Veterans information? I've tried posting various places and no one ever e-mails me back with an answer.....maybe they just don't have an answer or maybe I'm still trying the wrong spots. Here is my delima: My great grandfather was in Parker Co. Texas as a boy of 15 when he became a Commanche scout about 1862......The next year he enlisted with Simm's Battalion A, Brown's Regiment, Texas Cavalry from Parker County. About 1920 he moved his family to Ada, OK and was appointed to the Board of Trustee of the Old Soldier's Home in Ardmore, OK.......this must have been in the 1930's as the OK Governor was named Marland and he did the appointment. He was also a State Confederate Pension Commissioner. When my great grandfather died,.....just two months shy of his 100th birthday, in 1947, it is reported that he was the last surviving Confederate veteran of Ponotoc County. ( Some of this information comes from a written oral history and some from obits when he died in 1947) All I am trying to do is get copies or varification of this information. I'd like to know about the Texas Cavalry unit he belonged to. I'd also like to know about his appointments to the two Confederate posts. I must be looking in all the wrong places..............my great grandfather was named William Bluford CANTWELL, b. 1847, Richland Creek, Madison Co. Ark. and d. 1947 in Ada, OK. He is buried in Ft. Smith. I could sure use some ideas.............Thanks, Sharyn c onfederate soldier in Potonoc County. 1. Re: [OKGEN ] Another Question
    2. OK State Historical Society has a newspaper room that are on microfilm. You will actually park and enter the back side of the building and as you walk in you walk in on ground level on the back side. BUT this is considered the basement. This is where the "Archives" room is located..where you will find Native American and pre or early statehood items. The "first" floor has the reading room...where books on all states and mircofilm and readers are located. Also on this floor is the newspaper room. If you plan to use the microfilm reader in the "Reading Room" it is adviseable that you check things out and see if you need to put your name on the list to have a reader...depending on how busy they are that day. Then if you want to go to the Newspaper Room or Archives Room let them know where you will be and they will call that area to have you paged. And sometimes this applies to the Newspaper Room film readers. You are allowed only 2 hrs on the readers and have the option of a second chance if the names roll back around to yours. The Historical Society is open late on Mon...I think til 8...otherwise they close at 5 pm To the north end of the basement towards the auditorium is snack machines. Out side the building take the side walk leading to the North and there is concrete park benches. Good luck in your search! Kathy Stokes Hudson
