Since there have been a discussion of Capps and I sent my reply off list to the original sender. I'm sending it to the list now. Do you have a Dollie Capps that married a Grissam. I have more info in an obit around here somewhere that I haven't transcribed, but I can't locate it right now. They had at least two twin sons, Harrell and Carrell born 24 Nov 1913 in Burns Flat OK. You can go on north on Lincoln and you will come to several fast food restaurants. Or you can go south on Lincoln get on I-40 east, take the Sooner Rd Exit south and to SW 29th St. Turn right. In the next mile there is about any kind of restaurant you can think of. My favorite, which my map calla Round Up Pizza, but I don't think that is the name of it. It's between Long John Silver and KFC. The building they are in was once a Shakey's Pizza Parlor, if any one remembers those. The best part is they serve the same menu that Shakey's did. Including the Broasted Chicken and the Mojo taters as well as the pizza. I have a story about Shakey's that I'll relate in another message. If your looking for fancy dining in OKC, you can forget about it. It's fast food and all you can eat buffets. Probably the best restaurants are on and around the Hotel Row on Meridian off I-40.
Thanks Sharon!. That ties into some other info I have about the part of the family later being in/around Calvin. Bet it's only a short hop to Beck Twnshp. in McIntosh Co., where they were in 1910! Now, I have the county, can dig deeper. Thanks much. Hope you had a blessful Easter. Ethel --- Sharon Crawford <scburn@mmcable.com> wrote: > Hi Ethel > OK Place Names: > Tandy. Does anyone have a copy of the book about place names in OK? I found the marriage record of my grandfather's brother's first marriage in pre-statehood (1895) Choctaw Nation Marriage records. It states their residence as Tandy. I found my ggrandfather and his married Children in Choctaw Nation 1900 census, but the page only had a partial legal description. This would help me better pinpoint where they were, as this brother, and 3 sisters and families were living pretty close. My grandfather's twin brother died in a hunting accident about 1905, so he may be buried in the area, I knew which county. Gene, THere is an Old Grissom Cemetery, 5 1/2 miles NW of Rocky, which would be close to the area of Burns Flat. It's on land that Hobart owns for it's reservour(sp?) There are M. G., Hannah (w/o M. G.) and C. W. Grissom buried there. Are these a part of your Grissoms? I'd just like to say I'm sorry for sending a copy of the complete digest to everyone again. I hit the reply and I deleted part of the digest. Looks like it didn't work. Guess I'll just hit Ctrl C and Ctrl V and just copy the part that I wish to use. Again sorry for sending the digest to the list again. Thanks everybody for all of your help. I'm sure I'll be able to find the bldg now. Just wish me luck that I'll find a good parking place and that it won't be too crowded. Connie
Thanks so much
Hi there, sory i havent come across a Phoebe yet, but if i do i will send it along. Carma
If I haven't forgotten the first floor has the Indians Historical Society and the Historical newspapers for most of Oklahoma with the library on the second or third floor. I think they open at 9:00a.m. The parking lot is big but sometimes fills up fast. Depending on the hour traffics can be a real pain so you'll need to get into the lane your needing ASAP or you'll watch your turn go by. There are some nice places to eat but right at the moment I can't remember what street they're on. If I'm wrong please someone corrected me I'd hate to give them bad advise. Thank you Sharon ... I wish we were going to have a sunny Easter too but it looks like rain and dropping temperatures for Minnesota. Still, I'm planning on church and working a volunteer position I've held for a year now with the Humane Society. I too wish all those reading, "A Happy-and-Truly Blessful-Easter Weekend"! Anyway it is the big research library for genealogy in Oklahoma City. I also need to know where to park and if it cost anything to park. Thank you Connie
I am also searching for a Capp's family member her name is Pheobe Ann Capps who married a Boucher from Arkansas do you have anyone by this name in your group? any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You Sharon Wood Boch
Thank you, thank you all for helping to figure this out. "Guardian Pendentilitum" came up in County Court minutes, when the administrator of an estate was made guardian pendentilitum for the minor heirs of the estate. A little later in time, the County Court minutes listed a gentleman giving bond as guardian to one of the minor heirs, a young lady. A few months after that, the eldest brother of the minor heirs gave bond as guardian of another minor heir, a young man. The eldest brother would have been barely twenty-one. Unfortunately, this is all I know: the courthouse burned. Only the county court minutes survived. Thank you again, Alison Stevens _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com
At 17:23 -0500 on 4/11/01, Alison Stevens spoke about [OKGEN ] 1845 legal term: guardian pendentilitum. What thusly: >The perhaps archaic legal term "guardian pendentilitum" has stumped >all search engines tried so far. Does anyone know the meaning of >this term? It came up in connection with the administration of the >will of one of my ancestors. More customarily spelled "guardian pendente lite," the term means a guardian appointed for purposes of and for the duration of a legal proceeding. Today it is sometimes done in divorce proceedings, or when a child is the person who should be a party to litigation otherwise. -- Oliwni, Ted -- mailto:genealogysearch@consultburton.com =========================================================================== http://www.consultburton.com/genealogy.html Working on NY, VT, NH, MA, RI, 1864 and earlier, G-O-U-L-D, W-A-K-E-F-I-E-L-D; on OK, TX, & East, 1910 & earlier: E-L-K-I-N-S, G-W-A-L-T-N-E-Y, G-W-A-R-T-N-E-Y, M-A-N-G-U-M, R-U-S-S-E-L-L, S-T-E-P-H-E-N-S; on Germany: M-A-Y-E-R, K-R-U-E-G-E-R/ K-R-U-G-E-R; on Scotland: I-R-V-I-N-G; and on Cornwall: V-A-Y-R-O. ===========================================================================
