A shirt-tail cousin according to two variations of family history can be a related person six or seven times removed or it can be someone related to most of the same people you are but not related by blood. At least that's the Tennessee definitions. SharonMc2002
Original print Dec. 12, 1930 Seminole people went plum crazy about the baseball way back in 1910-11-12. In fact, the whole state of Oklahoma caught the fever in those years on the great national pastime. Those were the years when Seminole played real big league baseball such as they have never done since..... Ed P. That's an interesting expression ... "Shirt-tail" cousin. Can someone elaborate on that more to explain how it came about? I've always heard the use of it in conversation with the older folks that have past on but never really understood the meaning. Is it really a cousin or someone who just claims to be a cousin due to the familiarity with the family? I hope I asked that correctly! At one of our reunions, they put all the family stories on video and made copies for everyone. I really think that any body that watched my copy would enjoy it even if you didn't know any of the people involved. It started out by asking the older generation for memories of my grandparents. You see, I was born about 2 miles from that building, worked at the old Triple AAA Root Beer Drive-Inn on 13th and Broadway during my young years, went to business college on Broadway (or Robinson), had my first job across from the Katy Depot at George's Diner on Reno at age 16, my children were born at Wesley and St Anthony Hospitals, my husband died at the VA Hospital there. Most of my ancestors are buried in Sunny Lane and I have many, many cousins living in OKC to this date. So you can see why I had the feeling that my Home and Heartland had been desecrated along with the rest of you. I visited the memorial there last summer when it was pouring rain and I am not certain if that was rain or tears still flowing. Thank you so much for sharing those memories and I will see that each of my children receive a copy of your message.
