My great grandparents died in Ringling, Jefferson Co, OK in 1964. How can I find what paper had any obituaries? If it has to be through the historical societies, that's okay, it will get done eventually. I'm just impatient! The funeral home gave me this: John Quincy Porter, died 22 Jan 1964 in Ringling, Jefferson County, OK. He is buried in Ringling Memorial Cemetery. Winnie Malinda Porter, nee Bonifield, died Oct 1964 in Ringling, Jefferson County, OK. She is also buried in Ringling Memorial. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com
The only ones I've seen with that name a males who were given as part of their names their mother's maiden name. Sharon
I have written to MSN.Com (her ISP) and asked them to block her e-mail box until the problem is fixed. Let's hope that they do. I know Rose and she's really a delightful person so I'm afraid something must be really wrong at her house. Hello List Members, My name is Charmaine, I've just started doing the mailing out of Anna's obits for Creek Co. Ok., and the bio's from the books "A Standard History of Oklahoma". Just taking a little off of Marti's shoulders, or should say off her desk so she can find something else to put on it. Marti and Sharon C. are two very special and busy ladies, who with their hard work and all of their helpers, keep the Oklahoma pages in order and filled with free information for our genealogy research. These are two very important projects, and takes a great group of volunteers to get the job done. With a ways to go before the projects are completed. Volunteers are needed to help with the completion of these projects. If you would like to volunteer to help work on one or both of these projects, we would love to have you join this very special group of people. To volunteer contact Marti at okgenweb@usa.com Here is some of the work this group of volunteers have done. Volunteers have posted from the book "A Standard History of Oklahoma" Vol. 3, 553 bio's, and from Vol. 5, 122 bio's. Then there is Anna's Obits, from the Creek Co. Sapulpa Harold, 2131 obits have been posted at this time. With the help of very special people these projects can be completed. Your volunteer help would be greatly appreciated and is greatly needed. Take a look at the difference our volunteers are making. Just click on Biographies http://www.rootsweb.com/~okgenweb/ Obits: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/CreekObits Have fun checking out these pages, it an unbelievable amount of information provided by our volunteers. Won't you consider volunteering and help make a difference? Thank you Charmaine

Need info on one ARTHUR LEROY JOHNSON aka LEROY JOHNSON aka ROY JOHNSON Born about 1912 or 13 known to have resided in McAlester Oklahoma and Okla City, Ok area in the 30's and 40's married DOROTHY MAY ROBERTSON 1931 divorced 1933 unknown if living or deceased I think he had sisters named ANNA and LENA unknown if they were 1/2 sisters mothers name was ANNA CRAFT or KRAFT fathers name unknown about all can tell you about my father is this His full name is Arthur LeRoy Johnson, According to the marriage license he was 21 yrs' old in 1931 if this is accurate he would have been born in 1910 (but on my birth certificate in 1932 it shows he was 20 yrs' old so I would say he was probably born in 1912) but I know for sure my mother lied about her age because it says she was 18 yrs' old in 1931 when in fact she was only 14 1/2 yrs' old But she says he was 4 or 5 years older than her so maybe he didn't have to lie about his age. When they met in McAlester Oklahoma (Pittsburg Co.) in 1930-31 he was living with his mother who had divorced his dad and had remarried a Henry Craft/ Kraft. I think his dad and two older sisters were living in Okla. City,OKla at this time. His Dad's name might possibly have been Ira and he remarried a woman whose name might have been Ezra This is what my mother thinks but she isn't sure. His Sisters names were Lena and Anna Johnson (Again I think) he also had an older Brother who was named Jack who died before he met my mother and I was supposedly named after him. I may have over looked them in the 1920 census but then again they may have moved to Oklahoma after the 1920 census. I have both the marriage license and the divorce papers but there is nothing of any value on them except that he signed the marriage app. as LeRoy Johnson which leads me to believe he may have used his middle name as a first name. they were married in OK City, OK on 10/13/1931 and divorced on Aug 27 1934 in Pittsburg Co. Okla. As you can see I don't have much to go on but if you can help I would be forever grateful. I hope you can make heads from tails of this but if there's any questions I will answer what I can. Thanks to Tina for the Shawnee High info. A second question if you all don't mind? Is it possible to get copies of old passport information? Meaning......where do the forms go that one fills out for a passport? Can one write for a copy of a family member's pass port form. Is there a right of privacy attached? Having just filled forms for pass ports this year........they asked for quite a bit of information. Thanks, Sharyn
Sharyn, That would be Oklahoma Baptist University. 500 W. University Street Shawnee, Oklahoma 74801 (405) 275-2850 Business Office (405) 878-2020 Tina
Sharyn, Oh, well that just means I'm not the only one brain dead. The number for Shawnee High School is (405) 275-3084. Good luck. Tina
Sharon, The stuff you sent came through great, no download. What I got this morning was from the Cunningham email address. Thanks for the obits. Tina

cunningham1234 is definitely infected. She is also sending the email to people on a couple of Arkansas lists. Her real name is Rose and she lives in CA. I only found one message she has sent to the OKGEN mail list. Gene
Dear List, I don't won't to be out of line, but feel we need to remove Teresa's name from this subject line. There was apparently a misunderstanding in email posts. I feel it is unfair to Teresa to leave her name on the subject line in regard to the Cunningham 123 virus emails. No one knows who this Cunningham 123 is and as far as I know it could be coming from a fictious address and that's why they aren't answering. I personally have no "idea" who the individual is, but do feel we shouldn't be continuing this subject line and making Teresa's name a part of this in fairness to her. She isn't Cunningham 123. Marti had sent a posting to the list about this subject which hopefully will have helped individuals to clear up this conversation about the new virus. Block your emails and just keep deleting emails and attachments. For those with AOL, like me, remember they now have a "recently deleted email" in their mail program. You will want to go into that and permanently delete there too. Happy deleting! Paula
In a message dated 5/2/01 8:11:27 AM Central Daylight Time, astevens_0691@yahoo.com writes: << The infectious computer is scanning recent emails sent from the list for email addresses, and then sending infected material back to the sender. It will be interesting to see if this morning's posts brings another viral response. Alison Stevens >> Hi Everyone, Just an FYI - Cunningham1234 seems to be on several lists and these responses with the virus attached have been going on with other lists for about 6 or 7 days - almost since this virus hit. We have sent this person multiple e-mails to let them know that they have the virus and have sent information to help them get rid of it. They have not responded to any of those except the response you get from the virus itself. Several folks on the other list have also contacted msn. Usually folks don't know they are infected and therefore are spreading the virus without knowing it. I can't imagine why this person has not responded and taken care of the problem. The messages with the virus attached seem to come in batches - so it appears that this person signs on a couple of times a day. One thing you can do to keep from getting these messages with the virus attached is to go into your mail program and set it to reject any message from that address. That seems to be working on some of the other lists. That way your mail program bounces the message before it ends up in your mail box. Hope this helps a bit - take care - Emma
For those that have a Anti-Virus program & swear that your clean, but someone says you have a virus. Check this web site out Here is one thing to put on a web site. > Just check it out and see if its useful, let me know > http://www.angelfire.com/or/matney/page1.html Its a Trojan Removal program that you can download for free for 30 days. It DOES work....Our very own T. got the virus & her computer kept telling her she was clean when she wasn't. She used this & now she is. :) Also.....keep her in your prayers.....she's not feeling well. Dear List/ and Tina.......must have had brain freeze......my parents graduated from Shawnee High in '43......they were born in the 20's. Would love to see the year books....but doubt if they go out on inter library loan. Does anyone from the Shawnee area (Tina?) know of a Baptist University in Shawnee? New info. on my grandmother, and her sisters says they went to the Baptist University in Shawnee.....probably in the 1920's........is there a proper name for this school and does it still exist today? Thanks for all your help. Sharyn
