3. Allison: The collection you are talking about is probably at TWU...that's the women's college in Denton. NTSU is on the other side of town. May ask my son who goes to UNT (NTSU) to see if they have the cookbook collection. 3. Good morning, all, I read some time ago that the old cookbook collection at the old Texas State Women's College in Denton is really, really good, better than is generally known in the "foodie" world. That might mean that old area cookbooks could be found there. Best wishes, Alison Stevens _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 1. [OKGEN ] Another Cookbook -- Luther, O.T.
2. I have found another old cookbook. This one is undated, but 1. It includes ads for business in "Luther, O.T." so must have been published before 1907. 2. It contains recipes from contributors who did not move to the area until after the 1900 census. It thus places many more families in the area during territorial times and is a MAJOR find in terms of our area study. Unfortunately, it is so fragile that I'm not optimistic about copying or scanning it to post online. I do hope to put an index online, but even that will take time. In the meantime, if you are looking for people in the Luther area [northeastern Oklahoma Co., southeastern Logan Co., or western Lincoln Co.] you can go to Ceil's Corner and use its search engine to access all types of information I've posted. If you don't find the family where you expected to, just write to me. It could be a simple matter of a spelling variant. Even those of you with no ties to the Luther area may enjoy a brief glimpse into the past. from the Preserves, Pickles, Etc., section -- "To Preserve a Husband: Be careful in your selection; do not choose too young, and take only such varieties as have been reared in a good moral atmosphere. When once decided upon and settled, let that part remain forever settled, and give your entire thought to preparation for domestic use. Some insist on keeping them in a pickle, while others are constantly getting them in hot water. Even poor varieties may be made sweet, tender and good by garnishing with patience, well sweetened with smiles and flavored with kisses to taste; then wrap well in a mantle of charity, keep warm with a steady fire of romantic devotion, and serve with peaches and cream -- when thus prepared, they will keep for years." 3. I don't have info myself. However, there are many web sites devoted to helping adoptees find biological relatives. If you (or your friend) haven't already done so, I suggest you try a general search engine [www.google.com,www.askjeeves.com, www.alltheweb.com are three of my favorites]. Another possibility: many states and/or adoption agencies allow people to leave messages in adoption situations. For example, an adoptee may leave a letter to his/her biological mother with the agency from which they were adopted. If the mother is also looking for the child, the message can be delivered. I think there is a federal agency that does this too, but I don't remember which one (Social Security? maybe). I hope this helps and wish you good luck, Linda On Wed, 23 May 2001, Louise wrote: > Do any of you have info on a Donna Marie Nichols (or close spelling) > born 1-21-1959 in or very near Tulsa? > > She had siblings Beulah, Raymond and two other males. > > Beulah was adopted or otherwise given to maternal grandparents. 3. Do any of you have info on a Donna Marie Nichols (or close spelling) born 1-21-1959 in or very near Tulsa? She had siblings Beulah, Raymond and two other males. Beulah was adopted or otherwise given to maternal grandparents. No names known, but the grandfather had cancer on his face, I believe. Raymond had a speech impediment and MAY NOT have been adopted, although some records indicate he WAS. Donna's name became Sandra Smith when she was adopted. I am trying to help her find her siblings. Any info that might help will be most appreciated. If any of you have school records for any schools n the area about 1955 or later Beulah may be listed. If any of you have birth announcements from Tulsa papers we might find Donna Marie and parents' names. She would most like to find her siblings, but meeting parents would be OK if they are still living. She needs the info for medical reasons as well. Please help if you can. LOUISE & Sandy
