Please forward to the correct person if it is not you. I am searching for information about Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. You have it on your list as not found. The family gave information that they used to have family reunions there and there are some pictures but I can't contact anyone there locally to look for me now. I found an address on the internet for Pilgrims Rest Lakeview Cemetery, 4700 NE 63,OKC,OK 73121. 405 473 2900 I have not had any luck with either a letter or a call. I would appreciate any information you could give me. I am not able to go myself as I am living in Oregon. The names I am searching in particular are Coffman and Barton. Researching Chinese Names Genealogists searching for information about their Chinese ancestors should check for records filed under both the surname and the given name. Westerners are not always aware that, in Chinese names, the surname comes first, followed by the given name. As a result, census takers and public officials may have incorrectly recorded an ancestor's name in their indexes and/or filed documents under the given name rather than the surname. Researchers should therefore check both places. In addition, since Chinese pronunciations differ greatly, some names may have been spelled phonetically. Therefore, it is essential for researchers to learn how to 'misspell' their ancestors' names and search those as well. - George G. Thanks Helen. I would appreciate *any* clues! <G> Several descendents of my gg grandmother have told us, ( a cousin and myself) that she received her allotment of land somewhere near Eufaula. I know Eufaula was Creek Country, but it is located very near the SW corner of Cherokee Country. Her name was Mary Ann Williams Prince. She was a full Cherokee, (pretty close to full anyway). She and her family had applied for Cherokee citizenship in 1896, but were rejected because they lived in AR, and had never lived in Cherokee Nation. We have her application, so that is a fact. But these are older relatives and several of them swear she got an allotment. Neither of us have found anything else. We can't figure out, if she got an allotment, how? Since she was rejected, I have never come across a re-application, approved or otherwise. And she was Cherokee, so how come Creek? Although since it was close to the line, perhaps in the SW area? It has us puzzled, since she was rejected in 1896, yet these relatives, which were/are her children, grandchildren are so sure it is true. ANy help/clues would be greatly appreciated, as we try to sort fact from fiction. <g> Thanks, Ethel --- glswings <glswings@pacifier.com> wrote: > Ethel--I have some of the roll indexes. tina we have the same problem here in central texas and they can do darned well what they want to do, and there is no recourse once the wheels are in motion. my daughter lives in lytton springs, has a dale address and an austin telephone number. so go figure!!! even if you would incorporate your area, they can have it reversed in court, as this has also happened here in the area surrounding austin. the people had no say-so when austin wanted to annex them. i think it's terrible, and i would fight tooth and nail. but that's just me!!!! good luck josie
Hello everyone! Please find below a request I picked up on the Coal Co., OK list. I told Judy that I would help her look for the family of Tiny Hurst and siblings, but I live south of Houston, Texas and I have been surrounded by water and more water. I'm not able to help Judy at this time so if some kind soul could do a look up in the 1880, 1900, 1910 Indian Territory or OK census to help her find this family it would be gratefully appreciated. Please email Judy direct and cc me as I have Hurst's in my husband's family and really would like to know where this family connects. I am sending a copy of this email to Judy also. Thanks to all! The following is taken from a local newspaper. Does anyone know exactly what this means? I know that where I live means my family will get caught in this. I think it means we will no longer be in the city we are in now. If this is so we are lost for sure. I live in Tecumseh city limits (according to the sign), but have a Shawnee address and phone number. BUT when we need help (911) the two cities argue over who we belong to. So are we going to be here, but nowhere if these people do what they want? Should my neighbors and I get together and start thinking of a name for our town?? I have my thoughts why all of a sudden this is happening, but will not say them. The question of deannexing property south of the North Canadian River, including Citizen Band Potawatomi Nation holdings, was discussed. Somewhere in Oklahoma Tina Knapp
