Hi Cheryl, I tried sending this to you in private, but it came back so I am trying here. Sorry everyone. Hi Cheryl, Please send me the names you have, you said Viola (Ola) listed her mother's name as Lee, what was her first name and I will check the book for you. If her mother married a Lee or was a Lee before she married then according to this book she was indeed part Indian. some of these Lees came here on the Trail of Tears, if I can help you further please let me know. Here is some Lee's that are listed in the Sequoyah Country book: John Lee, born Oct.30,1831, in Georgia, the son of Watt or Wyatt Lee, came to Indian Territory on the Trail of Tears. In Nov. 1859, John Lee Married mary Faulkner, born June, 4th, 1844. To this union were born 11 children but 4 did not reach maturity. John and mary settled in the undeveloped wooded land about 5 miles southeast of Muldrow. This became known as Lees Chapel community. Their first home was a log cabin of split logs. John farmed and raised cattle. He helped scale logs to clear the area that became Paw paw and these logs were floated down the Arkansas River to sawmills. Shortly after the birth of their first child, John left to fight in the Civil War, where he was injured in battle. John and Mary gave three acres for lees Chapel Cemetery and it is believed the first person buried was one of his colored cooks. John died may 10, 1891, and was buried there. Mary later married a preacher named John Roberts. She died on June 20th, 1893, at age 49. She was buried at Lees Chapel Cemetery as was Mr Roberts. This is not quite all of the article, but it most of it except for the names mentioned as children of hers and Mr Lee. I do know that at Lees Chapel Church is still there and there are indeed some Lees that are kin to these people that are very prominent in this church. We have been told all of our lives that we are also kin to the Lees but none of us can find how. Hope this helps a bit and when I get a chance to sit down and type more I will send the rest of what it says on this family. DON'T YOU BELIEVE THIS. Pay special attention to the "disclaimer" It means: "I'm stealing other people's work or at best telling you false information to take your money." For more information on how well you will be ripped off by this person/these persons visit his website. All items listed on this webpage have item numbers assigned by the LDS Family History Library. Descriptive titles do not always match the film/fiche title listed in the FHL Catalog. If you'd like to see a detailed description of any item listed here you'll need to go to http://www.familysearch.org/ and click the Library tab at the top of that page and enter the item number. The exact entry or correct page number will be needed... please don't expect me to spend hours searching through unindexed pages for your surname as that is NOT what a lookup is... that is defined as research. Research is available on an hourly basis and a schedule of rates are posted on my webpage... the link to my webpage is at the bottom of this page, please feel free to visit it and examine it. Prices Oct-Apr are $1.50 per photocopy Prices May-Sep are $1.75 per photocopy Personal checks are accepted and may need to be held 7-10 days to clear both banks for new clients first time. Money Orders, Cashiers and bank checks, and cash are all gladly accepted. All orders will be shipped within three business days (Tue through Sat) of payment, not counting major holidays. Please send an adequate sized SASE (self addressed stamped envelope) with the correct postage to: Dennis V Carter, Genealogist Rt 2 Box 113-10 Alamo TX 78516 Please feel free to e-mail any questions to me at [email protected] If you send an e-mail address to have your order confirmed you will be advised the day your order ships by an e-mail. The McAllen Texas Family History Center (a 25 mile round trip drive for me) is where all of the microfiche and microfilm are stored and photocopied. A basic table of contents for this page is as follows: A. Order a photocopy of any page for $1.50 per copy (this beginning section you are now reading) B. Locality and Subject section of microfilms and microfiche (basically in alphabetical order by country and subject, so the United States begins roughly in the middle of this long list. The US has a seperate section on the 1861-1865 Civil War that begins before a listing of states.) C. Surname section of microfilms and microfiche (suggestion: you may want a photocopy of the index first and later decide just which pages you'd like copied) D. Links to related sites... (my webpage tells about books i've authored, my background, genealogical qualifications, and research rates) Looking for a shortcut? Use your Ctrl+f keys to search for a name or a locality and be taken there in less than a second." > (--------------------------------------------- Dianne, I am suprised to see that copies of copyrighted materials owned by the LDS Family History Library are being advertised for sale on your site. I am under the impression that this sale of copyrighted materials for profit is against the law. The librarians who work in the Family History Libraries, which are found around the country, are being told by the Salt Lake Family History Library not to allow copying of entire records/books/manuscripts lent out by them to patrons, because of this very thing. Making a profit off the backs of another's hard work is the lowest form of thievery. I suggest you check out this site if you have ever donated any materials you compiled to the Church fo Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Family History Library, because these people are probably selling it for $1.50 per page. Charlene PS: www.familysearch.org has Personal Ancestral File for compiling your genealogical information FOR FREE! Anyone can visit their family history library page and get a list of what is in the LDS Library in Salt Lake City. It costs 15 cents per microfische to borrow from them. Once you look at the microfische and see if it is what you want, you can copy each page for 25-50 cents per page yourself, or you can send for copies from pages of the books directly. Film and book information is also available. Please be careful what you buy on the internet. ----------------------------- Original Message: >From: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: [ILWAYNE-L] Lookups: Genealogy Look Ups Date: Fri, 1 Nov 2002 >00:19:36 EST > >hi, > Anyone wanting photocopies from the following LDS Family History >Library >microfiche and microfilms: > > Civil War-Illinois >1401524 Livingston County Soldier's Discharge Records 1865-1945 (see IL >item1) >6082244 Four years with Morgan and Forrest (see CSA) >6082405 K F Peddicord of Quirk's Scouts: Morgans Kentucky Cavalry CSA (see >OH) >6082544 Camp and Prison Journal Embracing Scenes in Camp... Hello, I'm hoping that someone can give me a clue! I'm looking for a small town named Tolen. It was in Okmulgee County, but none of the districts listed in the 1930 census include Tolen. I've used the geographic nameserver with no luck. Does anyone know this town-- and where it was at in 1930? Thanks! Phelicia Morton Searching COWAN~HENRY~MILES~MITCHELL~MORTON~RODGERS

For Immediate Release- Black Indians To Convene In Historic Celebration! "Freedmen Into Perfect Equality Of Citizenship" (Hon. Henry L. Dawes LL.D. Former Massachusetts Senator, Commissioner to the 5 Civilized Tribes, circa 1900 Lake Mohonk, New York) Announces Conference Registration, For: Descendants of Freedmen of the 5 Civilized Tribes Association 1st Annual Summer Conference May 29-June 1, 2003 Members of the Descendants of Freedmen of the 5 Civilized Tribes Association, have finalized plans for a huge Conference and Celebration Extravaganza, to be held in Oklahoma, the final leg of the journey for their ancestors whose lives intertwine inextricably with the infamous Trail of Tears. The Descendants of Freedmen of the 5 Civilized Tribes Association, a non-profit service organization, registered in the State of Oklahoma, whose members are largely Lineal Descendants of the more than 40,000 former Slaves of the Indian Territory that were freed with the negotiated Treaties of 1866 between the U.S. Government and the Sovereign Nations of the 5 Civilized Tribes, now announces the first ever grand-scale undertaking since the days of the Freedmen's Bureau, to unite African Ancestored Native American Descendants of Freedmen from all "5" of the Civilized Tribes (Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek and Seminole Nations of Indians) who are now scattered across the United States and abroad. Association Members are those having ancestor's that were enumerated upon the Indian Census occurring between 1898 and 1907, formally known as the "Final Rolls of Citizens and Freedmen of the 5 Civilized Tribes In Indian Territory, Prepared by The Commission and Commissioners To The 5 Civilized Tribes." The Rolls were Approved by the Secretary of the Interior On or Prior to 1907 (and was subsequently reopened briefly in order to satisfy Supreme Court Orders in response to litigation) closed finally in 1914. The list was compiled and printed Under Authority Conferred by the Act of Congress, Approved June 21, 1906 (34 Stat. L.325). These Commission Census Documents are more commonly referred to as the "Dawes Rolls", so called in reference the Honorable Henry L. Dawes LL.D. former Massachusetts Senator, the man appointed Commissioner To The Five Civilized Tribes by the Government to carry out its purposes, he was a self proclaimed "friend of the Indian". The undisputed goal of the Commission appointed by Congress "was to persuade the governments of the Five Civilized Tribes to negotiate themselves out of existence, an essential first step in implementing a policy of allotting land to each individual Indian." Many of the Lineal Descendants of the African Native Americans set to attend the Conference can trace their lineage back to the families of these land owning Indians and even more can trace their ancestry back to Indians on the Dawes Blood Rolls. Among the many issues to be considered at the gathering will be that despite the presence of Freedmen Ancestors upon the Federally Compiled, Completed and Approved Indian Rolls, Freedmen Descendants of the Modern Era are finding the Dawes Rolls now being used in an even more malevolent manner by the Current Tribal Governments of the Indian Nations than originally intended, and that as recent as the year 2002 Freedmen Descendants also find that they have been virtually legislated out of the existence of all 5 Tribes by oppressive Tribal Acts, Resolutions, Laws, Constitutions, Segregationist Practices and Unevenly Applied Governmental Policies and Procedures, unchallenged thus far (with the unusual exception of the Seminole Freedmen). In an unprecedented show of Unity and Solidarity, the Descendants of Freedmen of the 5 Civilized Tribes Association has challenged itself to a commitment of making this Conference a wonderful learning opportunity and a chance to bring African Ancestored Native American Descendants, Members and Others, together with an impressive gathering of Genealogists, Researchers, Socio-Economic Analysts, Politicians, Political Advocates, Attorneys, Legal Authorities, Educators, Authors, Media Representatives, Freedmen Activists, Museum Executives, Tribal Representatives, Anthropologists, Health and Welfare Professionals, African Native American Indian Representatives of other Nations, Interested Persons, Students, Friends and Supporters, to affect an awareness of the Citizenship, Enrollment, Land, Legal and other issues facing Modern Freedmen. A good time is sure to be had by all, as participants will partake in the pleasures of our host city and facility, the NCED Marriott Conference Center and Hotel, located in Norman, Oklahoma (a 30 minute drive from Oklahoma City). An all-inclusive Conference Package will be offered. Planned are Keynote Speakers, Lectures, Presentations and Town Hall Discussions presented by Freedmen and Indian Territory Experts, Luminaries and Black Indian Descendants. Participants will enjoy an Outdoor Bar-B-Que Cookout, Banquet Gala and Award Presentations, Musical Guest Stars and Cultural Entertainment, Interpretive Indian Slave Narrative Re-enactments, Dance and Vendors and Sponsor Showcase. All persons receiving this notification have had their name and email address submitted by a member of the Descendants of Freedmen of the 5 Civilized Tribes Association. We are asking that you send a return email to; [email protected] Indicating your interest in an informational conference registration packet, and an address you would prefer your packet mailed. Included will be a conference flyer, registration form, membership application, speaker/presenter proposal, vendor application and sponsor packages.
