    1. [OKGEN ] A Grandparents Wish......
    2. A Grandparents Wish...... We tried so hard to make things better for our kids that we made them worse. For my grandchildren, I'd like better. I'd really like for them to know about hand me down clothes and homemade ice cream and leftover meat loaf sandwiches. I really would. I hope you learn humility by being humiliated, and that you learn honesty by being cheated. I hope you learn to make your own bed and mow the lawn and wash the car. And I really hope nobody gives you a brand new car when you are sixteen. It will be good if at least one time you can see puppies born and your old dog put to sleep. I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in. I hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger brother/sister. And it's all right if you have to draw a line down the middle of the room, but when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he's scared, I hope you let him. When you want to see a movie and your little brother/sister wants to tag along, I hope you'll let him/her. I hope you have to walk uphill to school with your friends and that you live in a town where you can do it safely. On rainy days when you have to catch a ride, I hope you don't ask your driver to drop you two blocks away so you won't be seen riding with someone as uncool as your Mom. If you want a slingshot, I hope your Dad teaches you how to make one instead of buying one. I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books. When you learn to use computers, I hope you also learn to add and subtract in your head. I hope you get teased by your friends when you have your first crush on a boy\girl, and when you talk back to your mother that you learn what ivory soap tastes like. May you skin your knee climbing a mountain, burn your hand on a stove and stick your tongue on a frozen flagpole. I don't care if you try a beer once, but I hope you don't like it. And if a friend offers you dope or a joint, I hope you realize he is not your friend. I sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with your Grandma/Grandpa and go fishing with your Uncle. May you feel sorrow at a funeral and joy during the holidays. I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a baseball through your neighbor's window and that she hugs you and kisses you at Hannukah/Christmas time when you give her a plaster mold of your hand. These things I wish for you -- tough times and disappointment, hard work and happiness. To me, it's the only way to appreciate life. Written with a pen. Sealed with a kiss. I'm here for you. And if I die before you do, I'll go to heaven and wait for you.

    3. Dear Members: Please inform me whether this is legal or wanted on the list. The following ... information came through another list I'm on ... I'll be sending more titles if wanted or requested when I have the time and allowed on the list as source material. Feel free to go to your local library if anyone is interested in looking them up, I'm interested in your findings if successful in locating any of the titles. ------------------------------------------------------------------- > "Three Hundred Years in Innishowen, Being More Particularly an Account of the > Family of Young of Culdaff with Short Accounts of Many Other Families > Connected with Them", by Amy Young, 1929, The Linenhall Press, Belfast, 311 pages. > Some of the names included are Young, Hart, Harvey, Cary, Vaughan, McLaughlin, Skipton, Richardson, Knox, Ussher, Smith, Nesbitt, Chichester, Ball, Lawrence, Crofton, Boyd, Stuart and many others. -------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the first of several on the list if found in local Libraries is considered a 'TRUE' find. I feel they'll be of much help to some of the related Surnames from this list. Other than that, I'm afraid to share the fact that this gentleman offering the information is doing so at a price. Selling it page by page through written correspondence or ... dare I guess, some other means of payment. I choose to send the titles in an effort to help those looking for their ancestors ... however, if your interested in the larger list of books, I'll send you his name and address along with e-mail and you can contact him over other topics he claims to have. Personally, I refuse to pay for this info. even if it contains my families related surnames. "The library and I, are very good, dear Old Friends." I didn't get into this 'Hobby' for a profit nor did I expect to achieve greatness either by doing my research for personal use. However, this shows another example of profiteering off the backs of past researchers. Sorry for the speech, I'm a bit angry over the issue and struggled with whether to place the titles at all. Texas claimed the North Fork of the Red River as the main Channel and northern boundary and the 100th Meridian as the western boundary. 3. Oh I never said he was wrong..........never hinted & never would. Refering to an old owner or whatever as "their" place makes a lot of sense for Reference.....as I said...I had a great Uncle or great grandparents that raised Turkey's up in Kansas (somewhere near the Ok/Ks border) & when you asked directions to their place, if you mentioned they had a Turkey Farm....Who ever you'd ask would OH your looking for the Turkey Farm Road & proceed to give you directions. When I asked if anyone heard of Nap's place, it didn't dawn on me that it would be a reference to an old Homestead. Grandma was usually a little more specific when talking about a place, but in her story she told it how she remembered it/what she remembered it by. BTW: You'll LOVE Okla.......I've only been to Chelsea, Tulsa, Nowata, Stillwater, Vinita, Claremore & one or 2 other towns in that area. As that is where my dad's family (both sides) lived & I loved it. Always swore that I'd move to Chelsea as that's where my dad was raised & grandma lived (until she died..but she died in Nowata with her daughter). Its changed a great deal since I was back there in '83.......but it will always be home to me. Alli :) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rebecca York" <[email protected]> > Gene's right. 3. I'm also proud to be an okie & was raised in the Spud state........my dad talked about locations he lived in (which were only a couple) & locations in which his other relatives lived as did his mom. But if they referred to a Homestead or a farm...it was in connection with the current occupant/family member. I've learned a lot (from Gene & others) about the history of a location, such as Nap's Place) & it'll help me in my search for where my grandparents or at least Grandma was. I wish I had these kind of clue's in regard's to my grandpa. He basically disowned his own kids (only wanted them around for farm & dairy work), and the only "stories" I've been told are only about his character (which is a wonder he lived so long)& not about his childhood or residence. 3. I wasn't attacking anyone Shelia.........I simply stated that to say someone isn't an Okie or is a city girl because they weren't raised the same is some, is an assumption that shouldn't be made. Alli :) Your attack back was just as unnecessary as others references

It's called, for lack of a better terminology, (conservative attitudes and understanding communications). Your attack back was just as unnecessary as others references ... including my own comments at this moment. "Talk is cheap and some people don't have cheap talk to even talk about." SCB Meandering in Minnesota Meadows ... and, they don't call them Meadows up here in Minnesota any more than they do in Oklahoma but the reference is very understandable for all reading this notation. Pastures, Fields, Prairies, Glens ... their all the same if spoken and placed correctly.
