    3. Sherry... Since your ancestor was born before statehood, there would have been no state requirement for a birth certificate. What happened, though, to a great many people is that sometime later in life there was a need for the kind of identification that birth certificates provide, ie registering for Social Security, and there will be a sworn statement in the State Archives where birth certificates are kept. This happened in my family for several people. Don't have an address for the state office, but you can probably get that off the net.
