To Garfield County, Oklahoma subscribers: My mother and her parents and siblings lived in Waukomis, Oklahoma, from about 1903 to 1910. I recently found in my mother's papers a publication entitled: "BOOK OF 1909-1910", from the Happy Valley School, District No. 84, Garfield Co., Oklahoma. School personnel were: J. H. Aud, teacher; C. Y. Caldwell, C. S. Caldwell & W. E. Brown, school board members; George Rainey, county superintendant. The pupils in the school were: JAMES BLAIR; ARNET BROWN; WALLACE BROWN; MINNIE CALDWELL; MARGARET CALDWELL; MAY DAVIS; CLYDE DAVIS; FERN DICK; RAYMOND DICK; ALBERT FINKENBINDER; FRANK FINKENBINDER; NORALL FINKENBINDER; BERT HORRAL; FRED HORRAL; GIFFORD HORRAL; MAE IMMEL; JAMES KECK; CLARRA LINDOW; DELLA LINDOW; ISABELLE SHIFLET; GERTIE SHIFLET; ANNA SPLAIN; MAUD SPLAIN; WILLIE SPLAIN; FRED STOLK; FREEDA STOLK; MAGGIE STOLK; ASA THOMPSON; ELMER TOEDTMANN; STELLA TOEDTMANN; My mother, Freeda Stolk, would have been 13 years old in 1910 (the date of the school publication), her sister, Maggie Stolk, would have been 15, and their brother, Fred Stolk would have been 17. Other members of the Stolk children were Emma Stolk, and Mary Stolk -- both of them were out of school by 1910; younger siblings (and not yet in school were: Anna Stolk (born 1904), Henry Stolk (born 1906) and William Stolk (born 1908). My mother often spoke of seeing Halley's Comet in 1910. She stated that living on the flat land of Oklahoma made the appearance very, very impressive. By the end of 1910, the Stolk family -- Theodore Wilhelm Stolk and Wilhelmina Henrietta Stolk, and their 8 children had all moved to Oregon. Marilynn O'Neall meoall@msn.com
