My grandfather Walter Ellis Gist was born in Enid in 1898. He had several brothers and one sister, Dorothy, all also born there. His parents were Joseph Thompson Gist and Minnie Alice Lauver Gist. They settled a farm near Enid in 1893 during the Cherokee Land Rush. In addition to farming, the had several businesses including the gist Music Company and J.T. Gist Feed and Coal Company in Enid. Joseph was also a Lawyer there. Although I have much information on the family including many letters sent home from their settlement in 1893, I am always looking for more information or artifacts on the family.
