Good morning, I am needing an obit for Milford Whorley who was born on February 9, 1921 and died in November of 1986 in Enid..Is there a death index for Garfield County, so I could find an exact date of death?? Would also like to know a burial place for him...Anyone have a cemetery book or index??? Thanks to one and all!! Evelyn mailto:oden@cdsnet.net
Arless, Thank you for the response. This isn't a cowboy outfit. He is dressed in a regular suit. It is taken at a studio. He was living near Lahoma, Garfield Co. OK.

They were wearing cowboy outfits: sheepskin vest, chaps, cowboy hat, boots. Apparently, it was a fad to have one's picture taken in a costume of some sort. This must have been around 1920-26 in Woodward County, OK. Hope this helps. Arless aeilerts@southwind.net
Hello list, I have a picture of my Husbands Gr. Grandfather Koch, Frederick John Koch, picture taken Oct. 1913, He has a vest on with fringe around the front and large white stars down both sides. On the lapel of his suit jacket there are three bars , a cross and a (looks like) medal star with ring around it. As far as we know he wasn't in any military service, or sheriff either. Does anyone know of a lodge with this kind of apparel? Any hints are welcome.. Lois Burdick

Carole, There is a David Conner buried in the Garber Cemetery dates are: David Conner-1874-1955 and Anna 1881-1939 Sounds like from the dates this might be your David. There are quite a few Conner's listed in the Enid Cemetery but most were born later than the ones you have listed. On the marriage records we have on our web page I found Conner, Emma, Frank A. and William E. also a Beckner, Oscar. I found no Conner listed in any early Probate record for Garfield Co. We do have some early OK marriage at the Library. Will check. Check out : http://www.harvestcomm.net/org/garfield_genealogy/ Enjoy. Lois
Lois: David, born in 1874, is almost certainly my grandmother's brother. William E. in the marriage records must be her other brother, William Eliphalet. Do the marriage records say if William E. was married in a church? What church? Oscar Beckner doesn't sound familiar at all -- Thank you for this bit of info -- Carole S.

My children have VOTH ancestors who were Mennonites, though I don't think they lived in Enid, OK. I would like to hear from the person who has VOTH kin. Thanks Otis, she is not the Vogt I am looking for! Best Regards, Kathy
Hello Kathy, The Laura Amelia VOGT in Lois' email was in response to an earlier posting that I had made re SLUSHER's in Garfield CO, and refered to Laura Amelia SLUSHER (1868-1960) who m 1888 to Willam Henry VOGT (1857-1921). Laura lived in Enid, Garfield Co, OK, in 1946 and both are buried in Kingfisher Cemetery, Kingfisher Co, OK. They had one known child, a son, WIlliam Claude VOGT (1889-1974). Otis Slusher (in Florida)
Lois: I have requested information about my Conners before. It seems impossible to me that my great grandfather, grandmother, and all her brothers and sisters simply disappeared after the 1890 Oklahoma Territory Census. I am looking for marriages, deaths, school records, land records, anything .. for the following people, all of whom first came to Oklahoma in 1877 -- possibly with the Pawnee Indians who were removed from Nebraska...... Jefferson Conner - age 46 in 1890 William Eliphalet Conner - age 22 in 1890 Sarah A. Conner - age 30 in 1890 Malinda Conner - age 23 in 1890 Eva J. Conner - age 19 in 1890 Cyntha L. Conner - age 17 in 1890 David Conner - age 16 in 1890 Peter P. Conner- age 13 in 1890 Sara Conner, Jr. - age 3 in 1890 I know Malinda was a teacher in an Indian School, homesteaded in Kingfisher Co. , married , moved to Enid and eventually became quite wealthy. David also homesteaded in Kingfisher Co. My grandmother, Cyntha, married a William Beckner, but I don't know the date of the marriage. I don't find her again until 1900 - in Woods County, OK. All the others completely disappear. I am most interested in Jefferson Conner, my great grandfather -- and ofcourse, my grandmother's school and marriage records. All of the children were educated, so surely there are some school records. Can you help? Carole S. (in California)
Hello Lois, I am interested in more info on Laura Ameilia Vogt that is mentioned in your email. Do you have any other info on her? Did she ever marry? Thanks for your help. Best Regard, Kathy Clark Stovall
Otis, I found quite a lot on your Slusher's. They are mention in the Garfield County Books several times. The city directories, and I found an obit for Alfred E. Slusser ( wrong spelling but him all the same) in the Kingfisher Paper, March 15, 1894 It lists his Civil War service and Co. Marriage date and much more. If you don't have this obit , I will send it along with the rest. Kingfisher Cemetery: William W. Vogt 1857-1921 Laura Amelia Vogt 1868-1960 Howard C. Slusher 1878-1914 Alfred E. Slusher Aug. 18, 1842-March 10, 1894 Eliza J. Slusher July 20, 181852- Feb. 20, 1946 A marriage record for Minnie Slusher and Jacob E. Burson. April 18, 1912 I will put this in the mail tomorrow. Thank you for your donation to Garfield Co. Genealogy Inc. Lois Burdick
Mr. Slusher in Florida, I am sure that the Dr. Slusher you mention as William A. is the Dr. that had the Slusher Cancer Clinic. I looked at an old city directory , it lists him as living about 4 blocks from where I grew up. I remember a sign that said " Slusher Cancer Clinic" that was on Kenwood Blvd. near the Junior High School I attended. I found them listed, her as a Beauty Operator, him as a Doctor. We have his and Margaret's obit on file at the Enid Library. He died Feb. 13, 1970 and she Feb. 9, 1971. both were buried at Memorial Park Cemetery. Henninger-Allen Funeral Home were in charge. No children were listed. One brother for him, Harold Slusher, of Medford, OK. Hope this helps. Maybe someone will have more information on the Clinic. Lois
