I can remember seeing Junior Duncan box two or three times at functions held in Garber, OK. This was in the late 1930's. As I recall, he won the Golden Gloves award for his weight at least once at Enid, OK. I was four years younger than Junior when this was going on. One thing I remember about his boxing style; he always boxed with his right arm fully extended to the back, ready for a long swing at his opponent. He was so good at it that several younger and upcoming boxers imitated his style. Bob See >> Do you know where the records are of the "Golden Gloves" fights are? In discussing the Duncan family query, the fact that Milt Duncan used to host boxing matches in the loft of his barn was interesting. My brother said he had heard that there were several places (barns, etc.) around the Garber area where boxing matches were held. Sounds like it was a pretty popular passtime. Anyone have any information on this? This particular one was right on Red Rock Creek. Red Rock Creek has on occasion flooded and without much warning. The family on this farm was rescued from a flood once by going to the boxing match area of the barn. -----Original Message----- From: john and marilynn oneall <meoall@email.msn.com> To: OKGARFIE-L@rootsweb.com <OKGARFIE-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Saturday, September 18, 1999 5:29 PM Subject: [OKGARFIE-L] School year of 1909-1910 at Happy Valley School >To Garfield County, Oklahoma subscribers: > >My mother and her parents and siblings lived in Waukomis, Oklahoma, from >about 1903 to 1910. > >I recently found in my mother's papers a publication entitled: > "BOOK OF 1909-1910", from the Happy Valley School, District No. 84, >Garfield Co., Oklahoma. What school was that. Does it mention the school at Pond Creek? Rosalind Kelly
Hi Marilynn Just going thru my email and some of the family showed up. My mother was adopted by the older sister of the Finkerbinder ( Albert, Nora and Frank ) Her name was Irene, She was married to Elmer Smith. They adopted my mother in or around 1911 or 12. Was told they were homesteading around Drummons OK. My mother was part Cherokee, or I was told that. Her mother was Mable Thomas and father was Albert Cody. Both parents died soon after the birth of a brother. Who was Delburt Eugene Cody. Mother name was changed when she was adopted, could have been Burnice or Blanch. Mom said she was born in Lahoma, OK. If you or any one else has any information on it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance,Rich Green RHG2MPS@aol.com
To Garfield County, Oklahoma subscribers: My mother and her parents and siblings lived in Waukomis, Oklahoma, from about 1903 to 1910. I recently found in my mother's papers a publication entitled: "BOOK OF 1909-1910", from the Happy Valley School, District No. 84, Garfield Co., Oklahoma. School personnel were: J. H. Aud, teacher; C. Y. Caldwell, C. S. Caldwell & W. E. Brown, school board members; George Rainey, county superintendant. The pupils in the school were: JAMES BLAIR; ARNET BROWN; WALLACE BROWN; MINNIE CALDWELL; MARGARET CALDWELL; MAY DAVIS; CLYDE DAVIS; FERN DICK; RAYMOND DICK; ALBERT FINKENBINDER; FRANK FINKENBINDER; NORALL FINKENBINDER; BERT HORRAL; FRED HORRAL; GIFFORD HORRAL; MAE IMMEL; JAMES KECK; CLARRA LINDOW; DELLA LINDOW; ISABELLE SHIFLET; GERTIE SHIFLET; ANNA SPLAIN; MAUD SPLAIN; WILLIE SPLAIN; FRED STOLK; FREEDA STOLK; MAGGIE STOLK; ASA THOMPSON; ELMER TOEDTMANN; STELLA TOEDTMANN; My mother, Freeda Stolk, would have been 13 years old in 1910 (the date of the school publication), her sister, Maggie Stolk, would have been 15, and their brother, Fred Stolk would have been 17. Other members of the Stolk children were Emma Stolk, and Mary Stolk -- both of them were out of school by 1910; younger siblings (and not yet in school were: Anna Stolk (born 1904), Henry Stolk (born 1906) and William Stolk (born 1908). My mother often spoke of seeing Halley's Comet in 1910. She stated that living on the flat land of Oklahoma made the appearance very, very impressive. By the end of 1910, the Stolk family -- Theodore Wilhelm Stolk and Wilhelmina Henrietta Stolk, and their 8 children had all moved to Oregon. Marilynn O'Neall meoall@msn.com

They had 11 children. I would like to know where they are buried. Also seeking info on the family of Robert Lee Myers who married Cevilla Mae Bishop. They, too, were supposed to have taken part in the Land Run, and they settled around Hillsdale. I would like to know where they are buried, too. Also woould like to know where George Powell Bishop (d. 1918 in Enid) is buried. Thanks. Randie Myers randie@innercite.com
