I'm doing research on my great-grandfather Francis (Frank) Leighton HAWKMAN, born abt 1878, IN, md Luella Mae PATTON, 20 Sep 1896, Indian Territory, OK, had the following CH: Gladys Irene HAWKMAN, born in Creek County and live 4 months; Edith Frances HAWKMAN (my grandmother), born 21 May 1897, Mounds, Indian Terr.; Edna Rose HAWKMAN, born 5 Mar 1899, also in Mounds and Elsa HAWKMAN, born 27 Jun 1903, Oregon. Does anyone know the history of Mounds, how it was in the 1890's? I was told Frank was a city marshal during that time. He left for Oregon and stayed there until about 1907. Supposed to returned to Oklahoma, believed to be Creek County. He was killed sometime after he returned by some person or people that he arrested in the 1890's and sent to prison. Who would have information on this murder, if it actually took place? Does anyone have books about who were the town people of Mounds. What cemeteries are in Mounds or near by. What kind of newspapers did they have? Just an all around history. I have be trying for over 20 years to locate my great-grandfathers grave.
