(the one w/ Mr. Bennett in it) what do you think that is in front of the bldg? Is it a replica of a train engine or possibly the shadow from a real one parked near? > > Becky > *~Y~* > > > ==== OKCREEK Mailing List ==== > Oklahoma Cemeteries > http://www.rootsweb.com/~okgenweb/cemetery/cemetery.htm > I don't think it was a train ,but a wakasha engine they used in the powerhouse. A powerhouse was used in those days to run a number of oil wells from a central engine house "Powerhouse" it had "rodlines" that ran from the powerhouse to 10-20 seperate oil wells to keep them pumping. You could hook, unhook rods, to run or stop any oil well from pumping. My dad was a oil field pumper who ran those powerhouses in Creek County from the late "40's till his death in Kiefer in 1968. He was a pumper at Drumright from 1954-1960 , then moved us kids back to Kiefer in 1960 as a pumper. He spent all of his oil field carreer with the Tidewater Oil Co. I used to spend my summers with my dad at his "leases" and have lots of memories. Jack Delmar, 3rd generation grad of Kiefer, Okla. [email protected] www.my-ged.com/delmar
