    1. Re: [OKCREEK-L] to get acquainted
    2. Thanks very much for your reply! My Grandparents, Alfred Jackson Ragon, known as Jack, b. about 1854, and Catherine Elizabeth Benus, b. 1-1-1863, and known as Lizzie, were married in 1881, in Morrison's Bluff, Arkansas. They stayed there over a year and their first son, Lee, was born there. According to some of the records I came across at the Mormon Family Center, over in Mesa, AZ. (about 40 miles from our home), there were 2 more children born (perhaps stillborn) I could not find out any more than this. Then, the family moved to Indian Territory in OK. close to Salisaw, OK. My Mother, Laura Etta (known always by the nickname of Kernie) was b. in 1889, then a younger brother, Oscar Benjamin, was b. in 1891, and last of all, a little sister, Anna Elizabeth, (known as little Bessie), b. in 1896. She died of Pneumonia at age 10 in 1906. There is some unwanted history on my Grandpa, but I guess you have to have some dark bones in your closet one way or another. He was known as 'Black Jack Ragon' and was said to be somewhat of a gambler. Also, he went to Kansas City, and after some years, he came home very sick, and it was found out he had gotten the 'Pox' a bad case of Syphilis. I was very disappointed when I found this out. (never from my Mother) She was always very defensive of him. She just told us he had gotten sick and died, and I only found this out from 2 cousins I found after Mama had died. Grandpa died at age 43, in 1897 about. After Grandpa died, the family moved to Creek County, and later my Mother, Laura Etta, from now on, I will refer to her as Kernie, as she lived and died by that name. Her first husband was Harry Bruce, from the Kansas City area, and he was a mean natured fellow. After he found she was pregnant, he told her he only married her so he would not be called an old batchelor! The baby was a dear little boy, who Kernie named Malcolm Henry. (I have not been able to trace him, but know he was born in either 1913 or 14. He died at age 18 months, and Harry had left when the baby was only 6 months old. In 1925, Kernie had met and married my Dad, John Andrew Franklin Taylor, and they had us 3 girls. That is about all I can think of to write. Hope we can exchange some info. Thanks a lot. Allene/AZ.
