(Lovingly lifted from another mailing list.) ----Original Message Follows---- A friend shared this with me. It is excellent advice for those adicted to genealogy: I am sure you have spent hundreds of hours gathering information, it would be a shame to see it lost in the next generation. Genealogical Codicil to My Last Will and Testament To my spouse, children, guardian, administrator and/or executor: Upon my demise it is requested that you DO NOT dispose of any or all of my genealogical records, both those prepared personally by me and those records prepared by others which may be in my possession, including but not limited to books, files, notebooks or computer programs for a period of two years. During this time period, please attempt to identify one or more persons who would be willing to take custody of the said materials and the responsibility of maintaining and continuing the family histories. [If you know whom within your family or friends are likely candidates to accept these materials, please add the following at this point: "I suggest that the persons contacted regarding the assumption of the custody of these items include but not be limited to" and then list the names of those individuals at this point, with their addresses and telephone numbers if known] In the event you do no find anyone to accept these materials, please contact the various genealogical organizations that I have been a member of and determine if they will accept some parts or all of my genealogical materials. [List of organizations, addresses and phone numbers at bottom; include local chapters, with their addresses, phone numbers and contact persons if available as well as state/national contact information and addresses] Please remember that my genealogical endeavors consumed a great deal of time, travel, and money. Therefore it is my desire that the products of these endeavors be allowed to continue in a manner that will make them available to others in the future. Mary, I had checked the 1930 census for all persons named Anna in Pierce County who were her approximate age and I didn't find any matches. However, with this new surname, I tried to find her or her husband. I do not find Anna or Charles when I do a Gunns soundex search in Pierce County [i.e. searching without first names]. These are the soundex hits I get putting in Charles or Anna Gunns in the state of Washington in the 1930 census. None of them look promising to me. I did look at the Anna G. Gong [her surname looks to me on the microfilm as Long, by the way] and it isn't your Anna. Mary, In the 1920 Tacoma Township, Pierce County, Washington census, Blake #12-13 household, sheet 1B, an Anna Laudett, lodger, age 38, widow, born OK, father born GA, mother born GA, is working as a servant in the household. I don't find Anna in the 1930 census in Washington. There is a Laudette that is listed in a Washington state death index. Hi, Ona Thanks for your offer re: Mary Hannah (Blackburn) Hays. Yes, I was able to get a picture of her tombstone. I would like to find a copy of her obituary but I have no idea if Oilton had a newspaper at that time. I have not been able to locate anyone who knows what other towns in the Oilton area might have had a newspaper at that time. I really appreciate your offer of help. Keith Johnston
Ona, If you could do some research I would be glad to pay you for your time. I know they have opened up some new information from the last time I was able to get back there and do my own research. most of the research I need is before state hood in 1907. what I need is between 1895-1907. in Indian Territory. I am looking for the place where Charles Volk is buried. he was born about 1856 in Germany. they say he was buried in the Mannford Cem. in Creek Co. Okla. when they built the Keystone Lake the cemetery is now in the lake. I don't know where or if they moved the cemetery stones. I don't know when he died I know it was before 1930. He also had a son named Charles E. Volk born 15 Mar. 1882 in Ill. he died in 1972 and is buried in Kansas. kCould you do anything with this.? Thanks, Terry ammoman@softcom.net
