    2. I know I should be grateful for what I have; however, I somehow am not quite satisfied with Grandpa's secret life, especially since I had always looked on him as a knight in shining armour. He evidently told his family he was going to KC to trade or ? And also, was he a gambler like you see on the tv. Ah, well, those things I will probably never know. Mama always said he was buried in Muskogee, but when my husband and went there in 1994, we could not find a trace of him. Also, his oldest son, Lee, was a lot like him, and the last time my Mom and his Mother saw him, he was supposed to be going to either Arizona or NM. to try to get over TB. They never saw or heard from him again. He left his family in Creek Co. OK. and in 1995, I found his son, Leo Ragon, in Mesa, AZ. and he said he and his wife had tried to trace him, and had even used an agency, and could not find a trace of him. I guess like father, like son. I know I will have to be satisfied with what I have. The parts of this family that I know are that the youngest son, Oscar, died at age 27 of TB, in Oklahoma. Really, I wish I could have met some of this family. My Mother was a wonderful person, and I treasure her memory. Here is maybe one part of this family you may help in. My Grandma, Lizzie Ragon (her maiden name was Benus) had a Dad who came over from England with his brother and their family. On the way over, on the boat, there was a disease of Cholera and the parents of these two boys, and maybe others of the family, died, and were buried at sea. This is probably an unsolvable thing too, but I would sure like to find out the parents of the boys, and also to find out what happened to the brother. It was said that the two boys (ages 10 and 12) were put off the ship and told they would have to shift for themselves. I did find the one boy, who was my GGrandfather (never met him), but some relatives who knew him said he was close mouthed, and would never speak of the incident on the ship. Who knows, it was probably too traumatic to him. I am probably snatching at straws! I have searched ledgers of ships, and can't find them. Probably I have more than some folks have. You are most kind to have listened to me. Perhaps if anyone knows anything that might help me, they could contact me. Thank you kindly. Allene/AZ.

    2. Thanks very much for your reply! My Grandparents, Alfred Jackson Ragon, known as Jack, b. about 1854, and Catherine Elizabeth Benus, b. 1-1-1863, and known as Lizzie, were married in 1881, in Morrison's Bluff, Arkansas. They stayed there over a year and their first son, Lee, was born there. According to some of the records I came across at the Mormon Family Center, over in Mesa, AZ. (about 40 miles from our home), there were 2 more children born (perhaps stillborn) I could not find out any more than this. Then, the family moved to Indian Territory in OK. close to Salisaw, OK. My Mother, Laura Etta (known always by the nickname of Kernie) was b. in 1889, then a younger brother, Oscar Benjamin, was b. in 1891, and last of all, a little sister, Anna Elizabeth, (known as little Bessie), b. in 1896. She died of Pneumonia at age 10 in 1906. There is some unwanted history on my Grandpa, but I guess you have to have some dark bones in your closet one way or another. He was known as 'Black Jack Ragon' and was said to be somewhat of a gambler. Also, he went to Kansas City, and after some years, he came home very sick, and it was found out he had gotten the 'Pox' a bad case of Syphilis. I was very disappointed when I found this out. (never from my Mother) She was always very defensive of him. She just told us he had gotten sick and died, and I only found this out from 2 cousins I found after Mama had died. Grandpa died at age 43, in 1897 about. After Grandpa died, the family moved to Creek County, and later my Mother, Laura Etta, from now on, I will refer to her as Kernie, as she lived and died by that name. Her first husband was Harry Bruce, from the Kansas City area, and he was a mean natured fellow. After he found she was pregnant, he told her he only married her so he would not be called an old batchelor! The baby was a dear little boy, who Kernie named Malcolm Henry. (I have not been able to trace him, but know he was born in either 1913 or 14. He died at age 18 months, and Harry had left when the baby was only 6 months old. In 1925, Kernie had met and married my Dad, John Andrew Franklin Taylor, and they had us 3 girls. That is about all I can think of to write. Hope we can exchange some info. Thanks a lot. Allene/AZ.

    1. Ollie ROBERTS (ca. 1920?), with Ira CHEEK
    2. I have an old photograph of Ollie Roberts with his arm on Ira R CHEEK, my wife's grandfather. The look to be fairly young men (30 or so?), so I suspect it was taken between 1910 and 1920, probably in or around Sapulpa. Ira was a locomotive engineer. If anyone knows something about Ollie Roberts or is interested in a copy of the photo, let us know. Kevin Kelly and Paula Cheek Kelly Columbia, MO

    3. Bill & Kay...I have checked the current Drumright/Oilton telephone book and do not find anyone by that surname. There is a Michaels Funeral Home and Smith Funeral Home listed in the directory for Drumright. I think Smith is the older of the two. Perhaps you could call them and see if they handled the funeral. If so, they might perhaps have some additional information that would help. If I can be of further help, please let me know. linda spangler Bill and Kay Winter <wcwinter@pcisys.net> wrote: I have been researching a Hugh Maggart who died in 1931. May, 1889) if there are any still in the Creek Co. area. I have a copy of a picture that may or may not be Clyde's mother.
