Dear Ms. Yocham, Thank you for the lookup. We were actually looking for an obituary, but it appears there wasn't one. -ralph ----- Original Message ----- From: <doris.yocham@juno.com> To: <OKCREEK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, February 05, 2005 9:29 AM Subject: Re: [OKCREEK-L] Alfred J. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Hood, McFarland, Casteel Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gYB.2ACE/13167 Message Board Post: I am searching for information on Junior Harry Hood. He was born in Texas ca 1880. He died in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I have found him in the 1920 & 1930 census of Creek County (Sapulpa). His mother was Francis Endora ________ Hood McFarland. She is buried in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas. He was married 1. Mary Elizabeth Casteel. 2. Edna He was divorced from Elizabeth in Denton, Texas in ca 1919. I believe he may have died between 1955 - 1965. He had one living son who believed for many years that he had died at the time he and Elizabeth were divorced. ANY INFORMATION WHAT-SO-EVER would be appreciated!!!! Thank you, Melanie
With reference to your request for information on Alfred J. Dow, the Buffington Funeral Home record we have (Alford J. Dow) is evidently the same as you have. There are no relatives listed. Doris Yocham Sapulpa Historical Society
Ralph, Found something in the Sapulpa Herald for 13 Oct 1910. Not sure what information exactly you wanted, but it was more like a death notice than an obituary -- didn't reveal much. I checked the two days following and found no additional mention of Alfred. The item reads as follows: Alfred J. Dow, aged 80 years died at his home, 703 South Park street. Funeral service will be held from the residence tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment in the Sapulpa cemetery. Not much there, but the good news is I looked in the Buffington funeral home index and found him under "Alford Dow". His record is in "Book A"; bad news is the actual record books are at the Sapulpa Historical Museum, which is closed the remainder of the time I am in Sapulpa. Perhaps a local list member could pick up the quest for you and look at the funeral home record for more information. It might have a place of birth or something else useful (like who paid for the plot). The index entry did give a date of birth: 1 Mar 1850. Something else you might want to do is call the Sapulpa library, ask for the genealogy room, and have them check the old city directories for his name. Might tell you how long he lived in Sapulpa, and whether any relatives lived there at the same time. Good luck, Kevin Kelly Columbia, MO
Dear Kevin, Thanks for looking, I really appreciate it. I guess there was no obituary. Maybe, the family didn't feel like paying for it. But, at least we now know that the funeral home was Buffington. -ralph ----- Original Message ----- From: <KELKEV956@cs.com> To: <OKCREEK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, February 04, 2005 8:30 PM Subject: Re: [OKCREEK-L] Alfred J. Dear Ralph, I am in Sapulpa this week only and will probably hit the stacks myself. If I have enough time I will try to find it for you. Kevin from Missouri
You might try inter library loan for the newspaper film if no one has the time to look for the obituary. I do not live in the Sapulpa area. Also for a small fee some libraries will do this also. Just a thought. Good luck in your search. -----Original Message----- From: Ralph Taylor <rtaylor@informationtools.com> Sent: Feb 2, 2005 1:27 PM To: OKCREEK-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [OKCREEK-L] Alfred J. DOW, who died 2:30 AM, 13 Oct 1910 in Sapulpa, Creek Co., OK?. We have a copy of the funeral record, which indicates he died at 702 Park Avenue -- the home of his daughter, Susan Harty (DOW) TAYLOR, & son-in-law, Isaac Henry TAYLOR. Arrangements were made by Alfred's son, Wiliam B. DOW & the funeral was scheduled for 2:00 PM, 17 Oct 1910 at "Res" (residence?). Intermment was to be at Sapulpa Cemetery. William paid $64.50 cash on 15 Oct 1910 for a casket, burial robe, 2 carriages (w/2 passengers), a hearse, and a lot. (I think funeral prices have gone up.) BTW, the funeral record does not contain the name of the mortuary or funeral director. The reason for seeking the obit is for information it might contain about living and deceased relatives of Alfred, to confirm or question other sources. -ralph ==== OKCREEK Mailing List ==== >>>>>>>> OKGenWeb Chat <<<<<<<< ......... Hello All; I have enjoyed the posts as of late. Researching: Robertson, Grigor, Mobius, Diesel, Wresche, Fauss, Darding. I wonder if anyone could tell me if they have seen a head stone in the old Sapulpa cemetery,( not South Heights, it is older and northerly I think) for Alice ------ Robertson. Dod about 1942, and was married to John Robertson. I think I remember my Grandfather George V. Robertson purchasing a head stone for her in the 60's and would be so grateful to know if her maiden name might be listed, as I have not been able to find out what it might have been. To anyone who might be there or have access to this, Thank You! If not, I plan to get back there someday, but you know how that goes. Sincerely, Diana L. Robertson Jax Fl.
Easy enough. I knew one of the Clemmons there but I no longer live there. If you happen to run across any information with the name Hinds attached to it, please send it my way. Your message reminded me of Shamrock in Creek County. Did you know it is considered a ghost town because of its large population drop. In 1913 it was a sleepy hamlet of about 35 people. Then in 1914 oil was discovered nearby and the population exploded to over 10,000 people. After the oil boom subsided so did the population. It's back to being a sleepy little town again. My stepfather was born there in 1919. I'm sure his parents probably came there because of the oil field. That was the occupation him and at least 3 of his brothers followed. If you look on a map that shows all roads, you will see a huge network or roads northeast of Shamrock and southeast of Drumright. I think that's where the oilfields were. ==== OKCREEK Mailing List ==== Have you visited our Creek Co.
