    2. Kathy Williams
    3. The main surnames I am researching in Creek Co. are BARNES, WILLIAMS, PENCE, HOLEMAN and MORGAN. The WILLIAMS and PENCE lines were in the old Mannford area around the early 1900s, then the WILLIAMS moved on to the Drumright area in the 40s. The BARNES came to Creek Co. around 1908 and settled in the area south of Olive. The MORGANs came to Oklahoma in the 1890s and also eventually settled in the area south of Olive. My g-g-grandfather, W. Thomas Morgan was married to Lydia Jane Holeman.

    1. Re: [OKCREEK-L] Charles Page Orphanage - Sand Springs
    2. Kim Holly
    3. Hi All, I'm just going to clear up this sterilization issue regarding the children raised in Charles Page's Home. My father was raised there and I am here to prove they were NOT sterilized! Four of his brothers and sisters were raised there also and they each had children. "The Home" was privately funded by Charles Page and is located in Sand Springs, Tulsa Co. It is still there and my father recently attended a reunion. The Home is now used for neglected/abused children or those unable to stay in there own homes for some reason. For anyone interested, my father has written a short biography of his days in The Home. He had a good childhood and, for the most part, was treated very well there. The Home opened in the early 1900's and my father left it in the 1940's. I don't know when it switched from an orphanage to a group home. Charles Page, generous entrepenuer that he was, also developed a widow's colony nearby. Also, through the (I believe) Sand Springs Chamber of Commerce, one can obtain a book written about Charles Page and his orphanage. There are pictures of my father in the book, some of the very few I've seen of him when he was little (gee, Dad, I didn't know you played the French horn!). The book is called "A Fool's Enterprise," by Opal Bennefield Clark, another orphan raised by Mr. Pages generousity. The only policy of The Home, that I'm aware of, that went against the grain was their policy of keeping families together. The Home had a 'no adoption' policy so that brothers and sisters would stay together. My uncle was one of the youngest children ever to enter The Home and he had numerous offers to adopt, but the orphanage thought it more important that he stay with his siblings. I think that was a good idea and grew up knowing many loving aunts and uncles. Also, for anyone interested, I have a few e-mail addresses of others who had family who grew up in The Home, which I'd be happy to share. And, I'm sure my father wouldn't mind telling you personally of his experiences in The Home. With few exceptions, he talks fondly of his childhood......
