Researching the surnames GANS, GANSS, GANTZ, MOBLEY, MYERS, YOCUM, FRENCH. The GANS and GANSS spelling comes from Prussia, Germany from 1687...traveled to America aboard the ship "Two Brothers" to Philadelphia, PA in the 1800's....settled in and around York, PA. Spelling eventually changed to GANTZ. The GANTZES I am researching along with all the other surnames listed above set roots in Oklahoma....Sapulpa and surrounding towns, in the early 1900's. Any one researching these names in this area, please contact me. Thank you. Jerri [email protected]

Hi all -- can anyone tell me what the other flags were as referred to in the following on the State of Oklahoma page? Anyone know what the Oklahoma flag looked like before 1925? Know of any online pictures? http://www.state.ok.us/osfdocs/stinfo.html The present Oklahoma State Flag adopted by the State Legislature in 1925, is Oklahoma's 14th flag. This shows a sky blue field with a central device: an Indian war shield of tan buckskin showing small crosses on the face -- the Indian design for stars -- and seven eagle feathers pendent for the edge of the shield. An Indian peace pipe (calumet) with a pipestone bowl and a tassel at the end of the pipestem lies on the shield; above the Indian peace pipe is an olive branch, the white man's emblem of peace. Marti, The only thing I could find about previous flags is the following: FLAG. The original 1911 flag of Oklahoma depicted a star on a red field. After the Russian Revolution, however, that color and the star became associated with Communism, and in 1924 a contest was held to choose a new design. The flag symbolizes the state's American Indian heritage: the sky blue field is from an old Choctaw flag, and the rawhide shield is patterned after that of an Osage warrior. A crossed calumet, or ceremonial pipe, and olive branch signify peace. The name Oklahoma was added in 1941. Joyce S.
Has anyone on this list used the school records from Sapulpa, and do you know what kind of information can be gleaned from them? I have a mystery man in Sapulpa while his children where school aged, and I'm hoping these records, if they exist, can shed some light on the situation. Thanks much in advance, Tracy in WI
Wonderful new addition to the North Carolina pages. Great job Marceline Beem, Elizabeth Harris, Sonya Woosley and of course, Rootsweb. http://tn-1.rootsweb.com/~marce/ncarolina/index.html The marriage records in the North Carolina Marriage database are submitted by visitors to this page. If you have family from NC, submit your marriage information and/or go search for one. Marti -- Please Keep Messages Posted To OKGEN-L As "Genealogy Related Chat". Jack, thanks for your response. I think the cemetery I have in mind is the Mounds Cem. I have been there before. Just couldn't think of it before. Anyway, I am trying to locatethe grave of Luella Radell Marden. My grandmother has a note in her Bible that Luella was born dead at Kiefer in 1913. I do not have the Bible handy so I can know the exact date. I assume that she was buried as near to Kiefer as possible. I have been to the Mounds Cem., but when I was there, I didn't realize that Luella may have been buried there. Consequently, I didn't look for the grave. Any help appreciated. Sincerely, Bob Marden Jack Delmar wrote: > Bob, I was born and raised at Kiefer, I don't know of a cemetary actually > at Kiefer, My family was buried in Sapulpa South Hieghts and City cemetary. > Some of my kin are buried in the Mounds cemetary which is 5 miles south of > Kiefer. Looking for relatives of Henry Clay Johnson and his wife, Nancy Ann Patillo. Henry Clay and Nancy Ann lived near Paden, Oklahoma after living in several other locations along the way for a short time. Paden is located just East of Prague. Supposedly, Henry Clay and Nancy Ann returned to the Ozark, Arkansas area late in life. However, they spent most of their lives raising children and farming on land located just Northeast of Paden. While serving in the Civil War as a union soldier in the Missouri Infantry Henry Clay Johnson was blinded from a fever and never fully regained his sight.
