Alisa, I would think that they would be one in the same. It is simply an office that researches all legal records pertaining to the buying or selling of land. The abstract and title companies for the Kellyville area would most likely be in Sapulpa, OK. I don't know about British Columbia, but here you can contact the business and technology centers in any major public library and tell them you are looking for the address and or phone number of any major firm (which would include title companies) in a specific area and they have directories they can look them up for you. I'm not very far from Sapulpa, if you should track down which company it is let me know, I'll see what I can do from this end. Dear Jan, Thanks so much for the information. I am new at this genealogy stuff and would never have thought that such information would be available. Is an abstract company what we would call a lands titles office? How would I go about finding one in Creek Co? Thanks so much. Have a good day. -- Alisa in Beautiful British Columbia [email protected]
Alisa, If you do manage to find out the exact legal description of the farm in or near Kellyville, you can generally locate the abstract of the property here in OK. It is considered "public domain" material, which means any and all legal transactions that are connected in any way or form to the property are part of the abstract. There is GREAT genealogy info in abstracts, from complete copies of wills, paternity suits, sales (which are often from one family member to another), if the land was part of an Indian allotment (in Creek County a lot of the land was) and much more. The abstracts are generally held in an abstract company in the county where the property is located. While having an abstract brought up to date is quite expensive I am told by our abstract company you can "view" one at the office for free, and some offices will simply let you page per page of xeroxing for the pages you are interested in. Good luck in your search. Jan [email protected] wrote: > Hi Folks, > I am knew to this list. Just recieved my great > grandmother's death > certificate. Year before last, we stopped to look at the old school bldg. The guy who lives next door came over. He now owns the property. He went to school there. My mother and he had their picture taken together. I'm not sure where the town site is. I will ask my mother this am, and let you know if she knows anything about the town. Hi Folks, I am knew to this list. Just recieved my great grandmother's death certificate. Says she died near Kellyville OK. and that she was buried on her farm. I am wondering if anyone would be able to check a old directory or something similar and find out where the McClammers lived in 1929. I would love to know if the farm is still there, if there is a family graveyard or she just she was buried on the farm. I would love a copy of what is written on her tombstone if there is one. Thanks so much for your help and any suggestions. -- Alisa in Beautiful British Columbia [email protected]
> Don't know if Marti is still on the list or not. If you are thanks a million! She'd better be - she's the list owner. <VBG> And, you are most welcome. You might try http://www.CyndisList.com/cemetery.htm for some hints/tips about the problem. Definitely LOTs of red clay/dirt in the area as well as those awful mulberry trees. You also might consider calling a local company that provides stones and describe the problem - they might have a suggestion. I'm looking for more information on the Leverett's of Creek County. Most of the ones that I've located are buried in the Bristow City Cemetery. In particular I'm looking for Will and Viana Elizabeth (Ellis) Leverett. Their oldest daughter, Rebecca Leverett-Moore b: 1888 d: 1985 was my great-great-grandmother. I believe Will died in 1935 and Viana died in 1950, but I haven't confirmed that information yet. Since Markham was mentioned ,I would find it very interesting to hear any history on the old town. My grandpa and grandma Campbell lived on the old town site and their storm cellar was supposed to have been the old town vault. We used to find old coins in the sand. Nothing there now but pasture.
Hello to the list again, Last year I contacted the list about finding my Grandfather's tombstone in Sunrise Cemetery. His name was John William Cowan. I got immediate help, and even got the exact location from Marti Graham. Don't know if Marti is still on the list or not. If you are thanks a million! To make the long story short, I found a cousin within 40 miles who just went last weekend and took pictures of the cemetery and stone for me. The tombstone has a lot of rust colored stain? on it, and she was wondering how to clean it. I was wondering what the stain was, whether from bird droppings, or she says there is a lot of red clay in the area. The stone is a flat dark granite stone with a white, or lighter insert in the middle for the inscription, J W Cowan 1865 1935 Is there any one familiar with this type stain in the area and could give us advice of the best way to get rid of it? If anyone would like a small .jpg of the stone to see the stain, let me know and I'll attach one and send a jpg off list. Thanks for any advice you might have. I subscribe to the Digest.. -- Best Regards Earl Cowan (From PA) mailto:[email protected], http://www.weir.net/~ecowan http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/c/o/w/Earl-R-Cowan/
I am interested in your Cowen line. I had 2 great aunts that married Cowens. Nealie Stone (b) 1906 (m) Virgil Cowen. Lennie Stone (b)1901 (m) Omer Cowen. Nealie was living in Paden Ok. when she died. Could they be related to your Cowens? Ona Brown

Thanks Jerri, It's positive to hear from someone that at least has heard of my line. I have been lurking and reading and trying to find info for about 2 yrs now. I will check for the Herald on-line. I read the Tulsa World sometimes so know it is available but I doubt they would have anything. Thanks again, diana robertson

Great to hear from you. My mother was Eula Marden. There were5 girls in the eighth grade. Viola and my mother then went to different schools. We may have left out an "l" on the Bickel name. I certainly appreciate any help. We are planning to go to the Oilton reunion in May.
