Friends: Anyone out there on the net from Oilton? Would love to hear from you. Thanks, Bob Marden
Wanda, would be glad to take a look. What years are we talking about? Sincerely, Bob Marden
Ona, thanks very much for checking. W. H. Marden was my paternal grandfather. I just wish there was narrowing down the search for Luella Radell Marden. Thanks for checking. Sincerely, Bob Marden
Go to one of the Native American web sites. I have the 1902 Dawes Rolls. If you will give me some names and dates of birth, I'll look them up for you. Wanda Wiggins-Havlick
Dear Insane Bob: If you come across any Wiggins' in Boone Co., AR, as in Henry & Polly, Ned and Mandy, Enick, Elick, Charley or Charles & Elizabeth Coker, would you let me know? Don't make any spectacular effort, but if you should come across them I'd appreciate hearing from you. Wanda Wiggins-Havlick

Hi Tristia- You may be looking for "Bokchito", Oklahoma. A general description is: "In Bryant Co. 14 miles east of Durant. Post office established August, 11, 1894. The name is a Choctaw word meaning "big creek"." Indian Territory is correct. Hope this helps..Glenda -----Original Message----- From: Tristia Watson <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Friday, May 14, 1999 1:40 PM Subject: [OKCREEK-L] Indian Territory >I've just recently started researching my great-grandfather's side of the >family which we think has some Indian ties. "Bokehito" could be BOKOSHE, OKLAHOMA. It is located about 16 miles north of Poteau, Oklahoma,(hwy 59) then west about 7 miles on hwy 31.(This is LeFlore County in the southeast part of Oklahoma next to Arkansas) [email protected] 08:41 AM 5/14/99 -0500, you wrote: >I've just recently started researching my great-grandfather's side of the >family which we think has some Indian ties. There was a 1890 territorial census for Ok. and you could check the 1900 soundex. What Ellis are you looking for. Mine were in Jefferson Co. Tn., Coles Co. ILL., Ellis Co. Tx., Washington and Benton Co.s Ark. Ona
Alisa,I went to the court house today. I fond that the land records are not indexed by names. You would need to go thru all the records to find the place your gr grand mothers place. So! What we need is information. Do you remember any one saying how far it was from Kellyville. which direction. Do you know how long she lived there? Was sh in the 1920 census there. When did her husband die. Did he die before or after. Did they own thier land.Do you know if or when the land was sold. Did some of the family live there after she died. Any of this information could narrow the search. I looked in the Sapulpa Paper. I didn't find a death notice. Ona
Robert, I looked thorugh the Creek Co. Cem. records today. I found one Marden. It is in the Old Sapulpa Cem. Infant of W. H. Marden b/d 10 March 1915 If you think this could be the one you are looking for, I can copy you a map of the cem. so you can find it. Ona Brown
I've just recently started researching my great-grandfather's side of the family which we think has some Indian ties. Family legend says that my great-great-grandmother was at least 50% Cherokee or Apache and I know that 2 of her children were born in Bokehito, Indian Territory in 1902 and 1904. (Information I got out of a family Bible so the spelling may be off.) I've been trying to trace the route of the family and I know the family was in Texas in 1898 and then in Stephens County, OK for the 1910 census, but in between they were in Indian Territory. How do I go about finding where "Bokehito" was in Indian Territory? Any pointers? Friends, I have received several kind responses to my note on Luella Radell Marden. Now, I would like to make an offer which I hope I do not regret. I would like to help any who are hunting for long lost relatives(those who may possibly be alive.) Private detectives often charge thousands of $ for this, but my offer is a free service. I prefer looking for males because they are easier to find. If I get too many requests, I may have to withdraw the offer, but for now, I will help you out. When I look, I need the cooperation of the one who needs my assistance. That is, he/she might have to make phonecalls, send letters, etc., but I will try to help you track down that special one. Please email me and away we go. Sincerely, Bob Marden(Actually, this may be an act of insanity).
Dear Bob, I don't even know if you would be interested in my relative; In about 1843 or '44, my Great grandfather, Will Benus, a brother, Augustus, and several siblings, along with their mother and father, came from Germany or England on a ship (starting to the United States) and on the way over, a lot of folks got Cholera, died and were buried at sea. I guess when his folks found they were getting the disease, they sent the 2 boys who hadn't gotten it, over to the far side of the ship. They were only about 10 and 12. All I can find out was that the total family except the 2 boys, died; when the ship docked at New York, (as I was told was a practice), the boys were just put off and told to fend for themselves. I was told by living relatives that they knew nothing about them afterward when they were young men that they ended up in Greeley, KA. I do have a little info. on Will, because he was my GGrandfather; but the relatives tell me that Will would never talk about his childhood. only telling the small bit I have put down. The other boy, Gus, I can find only one thing about him; that he was in Illinois in 1860, and had married a lady named Sophie. I have looked on many ship records trying to find their names, but no such luck. I would like, of course, to find records of the parents, but have almost given up on that; next, I would like to try to find out anything about Will's brother, Gus (Augustus) Benus. You may not even be interested in this, but if so, I would sure be glad. Let me know. THANKS. However you decide, it is most kind of you to do this for us cousins on OKCREEK-L. Thanks, Ona. I guess the burial could have taken place in numerous places. Sincerely, Bob Marden I really appreciate the kind responses I have received. Sincerely, Bob Marden
Jerri, Pardon the reply button. I just wished I had asked my grandmother where this burial took place. I have been to Kiefer. Will check out Mounds and Green Hills. I appreciate your help. I was born near Oilton, but we moved to Texas when I was 5. We try to make it back once a year from here in Harrison, Ar. Thanks again. Thanks, Jack, for the info on Twin Mounds. I have been there but did not know at the time that the Marden baby might have been buried there. I was trying to determine if there were any other cemeteries within a short driving distance. It now seems likely that I will have to scout Twin Mounds. Sincerely and thanks again, Bob Marden
Wanda...Well, I meant to say north.....you see, I was picturing myself standing in Sapulpa and Kiefer is 5 miles south of Sapulpa---------that's what I meant to say!!! Sometimes my brain and my fingers don't connect at the same time---you know, sometimes I have a senior moment! I have been away since 1983 but, make it back home once a year to our big family reunion on Father's Day. I'd like to come home for good, but our job makes us stay here in the South. We've only been here 2 years, before that we were in the armpit of America, Amarillo, TX . I managed to not get blown away from the straight winds of Amarillo so if LA starts to slide off, I'll jump over into TX. LOL!!!! Besides, I've come thru a few horrendous tornadoes in Sapulpa and Tulsa. Guess perils happen in almost every state in the union. We've had a few bad tornadoes here in Shreveport this spring, too! Take care and happy hunting! Jerri
Jerri - how long has it been since you were in Sapulpa? It's about 5 miles north of Kiefer, not south. Come back home where you belong before LA falls off into the Pacific. Wanda Wiggins-Havlick
