Bob, I hate to butt in, but somewhere I missed the original post concerning these murders. How or where are you finding information. I'm looking for information regarding a murder in the Happy Corner area, which I understand is not far from where you are talking about. Happened in 1917-20. Any suggestions on where to access information. I'd appreciate any ideas. Friends: I know of someone who is searching for a sibling in Oklahoma City. I am wondering if Oklahoma has a county birth register which lists all births on any given date. Any help on this appreciated. Sincerely, Bob Marden
Dear Robert, What state are you speaking of? If it is Oklahoma and Southern Baptist, the address for the offices is 3800 N. May Okc OK 73122. They have a list of pastors who have been licensed with the church in Oklahoma. Cindy Yocum Robert Marden wrote: > Thanks, Marti. Now for a quick question. Kathy, I think you are right. I had their name and address in a notebook which has been mislaid. I don't know if they have a lot of copies or not, but I think you right about it being the Huffs. So, I really appreciate it. Are you in Drumright? Walker, thanks for the info. I have always used the ancestry.com one, but maybe I can find more on the one you mentioned. Walker, we have both vols by Newsom on the Drumright-Oilton area. He also has one on Payne Co. which we have. Great books. I am glad you mentioned them. I have been told that there are some unsolved murders in the area in addition to the ones above. Sincerely, Bob Marden
Ona, all 3 murders took place in the early 1920's. Bob Marden
Ona, I guess I really didn't answer your question. Yes, all three cases involved people from Drumright. Bob Marden. The Baptist minister and the little boy were living in Drumright at the time of their murders. I believe the Catholic priest was also, but he was murdered while on a trip. Ona, if you are referring to the Baptist preacher and Kenneth Williams, evidently all that is available is newspaper files. What I would like to know is if there are, for example, any old police files stored away. I am told people have searched for such files, but nobody has ever found such, if they exist. It would take someone who really likes to dig. The problem is in knowing where to dig. By the way, there was a Catholic priest from Drumright about the same time as the above two people. He had been receiving death threats. He was murdered in Evansville, Ind. while on a trip from Drumright. This case was never solved either. Any ideas appreciated except one advocating dropping the thing. Sincerely, Bob Marden [email protected] wrote: > Did this all happen in Creek Co. Do you know where they were living at the > time. Bob, The book, DRUMRIGHT! The Glory Days of a Boom Town, by D. Earl Newsom, Evans Publications, Inc., Perkins, OK 74059, copyright 1985, pages 110-112, discusses the missing minister. He was the assistant pastor of the Baptist Church. His clothes were found near where a new bridge was constructed four miles north of Drumright. People think that his body is in the concrete of the bridge. Some people thought that the killer or killers were really looking for the head minister because he had given sermons critical of the Klu Klux Klan. The head minister, Reverend Lackey called Reverend Montelius' disappearance an assassination. I do not find one Helen Thompson on the Dawes Rolls who would not be the right age. Under WILEY, I found Bertha, Worcester, Davis, Nannie, Mouse, Nancy, Annie, Linnie, Theodore R. and Rachel. Any of those sound familiar? There are also several Wiley's in Creek County who are Creek Indian. I don't have the Creek Rolls. If any of the Wiley's above ring a bell, let me know and I'll send you the rest of the info on the Dawes'. Wanda
Thanks to everyone for there contribution on Paden... I'm assuming most of the information I need will be in Drumright City Hall, Sapulpa at the County Courthouse and the OK Historical Society. I'm also on the Okfuskee mailing list, so luckily I haven't lost any ground searching here in Creek County. Besides, this list seems to be more informational than the Okfuskee list is at this time. TO: Ona If you have the time, I would like to find where Jim (or James) Johnson buried. Unfortunately, I don't have his exact birth or death day, but I would say he was born around 1875 and died about 1949, or 1950. He should be buried in one of the cemeteries near Paden. Possibly, next to his wife, Effie Johnson. Thanks once again. Sincerely, Eric Clay Johnson ----- Original Message ----- From: Eric C. Marti, I may have forgotten to say thanks for the sites. So, thanks. Sincerely, Bob Marden
Thanks, Marti. Now for a quick question. Is there anyone out there who is daring enough to work with me in trying to find any hidden files on the Baptist preacher who vanished into oblivion? There is also the case of Kenneth Garven Williams who was kidnapped and murdered. Would like to hear from anyone on this. Sincerely, Bob Marden
Did this all happen in Creek Co. Do you know where they were living at the time. There might be something in one of the News papers. Do you know the date or some thing near to when it happened. Ona
