Friends, there is an abandoned cemetery in Creek Co. on old Hwy 151. It's on a knoll and hard to find if you don't know it is there. It is an absolute disgrace. I know there is at least one veteran interred there. Is there anyone on this forum from the American Legion or any organization that could help get this place cleaned up. It is so grown up, it looks like a jungle. Any ideas? Sincerely, Bob Marden

Sapulpa is the County Seat for Creek County and would have all of the Records normally maintained. However, the public library at Sapulpa has one of the largest collection of records and microfilm for genealogy research in Eastern Oklahoma. [email protected]
Hello!! I've just joined this list because I need some information about the resources available in and around Sapulpa. My grandfather, Robert Lee Smith, supposedly was from that area. It's a long story but I never knew my grandfather and none of my great aunts or uncles will tell me anything about him. I'm planning a trip to Sapulpa within the next month and I'd like to know what sort of records are available to the public, such as school records, tax records, voting records, newspapers, etc....... Can anyone help me? Paula

I talked to the school administration office in Bristow. Most of the records for small towns in southern Creek Co.were transferred to Bristow. HOWEVER, they have no idea of where to find the Newby records. As the lady said "Nobody has ever asked about Newby so we probably don't have them." When pursued further, she indicated that she would have no idea of where to start looking. I don't know if these records are considered strictly school records or county records. You might try writing to the County Clerk is Sapulpa, OK. Wish I could be more positive. [email protected]
My mother in law and her sisters and brother attended Newby School, probably about 1926-1930. Are there any school records for Newby School, and if so where would I write to get copies of them? Thanks, Jan in CA

Marti: I have been away on vacation for a few weeks and just read this note. I would appreciate having the obituary of Perry Redus as he is my great-uncle. Also, there is one Stafford obituary and I would like that also to see if there is a connection to my Staffords. Thanks. The Creek Co list sure was active while I was gone! Hello list, I've posted here once before but only in a general sense. I've been lurking so that I could get a feel for how this list works. I must say that I have learned a lot from the info you folks are sharing. Please allow me to introduce my brick walls and myself. My name is Rory Patterson (nee Wood). I am the daughter of one Walter Nelson Wood, son of Walter Winton and Juanita Louise (Bruton) Wood. I know very little about any of them. Below is what I do know: Walter Nelson Wood (my father) born 4/14/1928 in Drumright, Creek Co., OK. He claims Dr. Starr delivered him. A member of this list has confirmed to me that such a record exists. However, I am attempting to prove it is my father since all it mentions in Dr. Starr's records at the museum in Drumright is that he delivered a son to one Walter Wood on that date with no mother listed. I visited the Clerk of Court in Drumright in April this year when I stumbled on it by accident. Long story :). Anyway, the only records they have there that go back that far are divorce records. I looked to see if maybe there was one for my grandparents since she left him when my father was two years old. There didn't seem to be one. I was told that I would have to look for birth and marriage records in Oklahoma City. So, I'm kind of stuck since OK City didn't find a birth record for my dad. I now believe his given name may have been different at birth. Anyway, my grandmother, Louise, according to her death certificate is buried in Drumright Cemetery as Juanita Louise Ritchie. I could not locate the grave as I was on a pretty strict schedule and didn't get a chance to walk through the entire cemetery. How can I find any of the info that I so desperately seek? I realize that going up to OK City would help a great deal, especially since I'm only a couple of hours away. Are these records available on the weekends? I would gladly trade lookups here in exchange for someone doing the same for me there. The Dallas Public Library has a wonderful genealogy section. If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it. Thank you, Rory
Wanda, Thanks for looking. I'll have to get back to you on Helen's relatives. I'm still researching for names on her side of the family. -----Original Message----- From: wanda havlick [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, May 18, 1999 5:10 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [OKCREEK-L] Indian Territory I do not find one Helen Thompson on the Dawes Rolls who would not be the right age. Under WILEY, I found Bertha, Worcester, Davis, Nannie, Mouse, Nancy, Annie, Linnie, Theodore R. and Rachel. Any of those sound familiar? There are also several Wiley's in Creek County who are Creek Indian. I don't have the Creek Rolls. If any of the Wiley's above ring a bell, let me know and I'll send you the rest of the info on the Dawes'.
