Harold, There probably weren't any. From my research here in Cleveland County, I discovered that the early funeral homes started out as furniture companies that sold caskets. When someone died, the family would go to the furniture store and buy a casket and do the burying themselves. Oklahoma didn't require death certificates until 1917. About that time the furniture store became an offical funeral home. There are no official records of burials before 1918 in Cleveland County. Hello, I'm new to the Comanche mailing list. My name is Judy and here is my family query. These are the family I am trying to find info on : Frank WILLIAMS b. 1898 in Massachusetts d.1961 in Ft.Sill Hospital Lucy Bell (Fitch) WILLIAMS b.? in Comanche Co.? d. 1959 in Ft. Sill Hospital. Both are buried at Sunset Cemetery. Parents of Frank WILLIAMS : George Beverly HUDSON b.? d.abt.1934 Lawton, Ok. Lillian (Capron) HUDSON b.? d.1925 Lawton, Ok. Both are buried at Highland Cemetery Mother of Lucy Bell (Fitch) WILLIAMS is also buried at Highland Cemetery. Unsure of first name Katherine,Catarina,or Catrina (Link) FITCH but she was widowed and remarried to a John Stevens/Stephens, probably buried under the STEVENS/STEPHENS name d.1933 May also have an Uncle Osa B. FITCH buried in Lawton. Any information anyone could pass this way would be so very helpful. Frank WILLIAMS was born George Frank Hudson and his parents would not allow him to join the Army. He went anyway, his mother found him and dragged him back. He left again but changed his name to "Frank WILLIAMS" so parents couldn't find him. One more tidbit of info; My HUDSON's were Methodists, just in case there might be some church records. I hope it was ok to make this so long, haven't received any mailings since I subscribed, so trying to liven things up and give other subscribers something to read. ha Later! Jude

The Comanche County, Oklahoma Web page has been updated with new queries and surnames. Also, the Lawton High School graduating Class of 1923 has been added. A special thanks to Rita Tanner for transcribing those names from a yearbook she had. If anyone has wills, death certificates, marriage licenses or deeds dealing with families in Comanche County that they would be willing to transcribe and share, please let me know. These could be put up on the web page and might prove invaluable to someone and help you make a connection. http://www.rootsweb.com/~okcomanc/okgen.htm Thanks, Becky Becky Smith Gallops bgallops@ionet.net

A message from Dr. Brian Leverich of RootsWeb. If you did not get a digest, but got individual mail messages last night, this explains why. It was a one time occurence. I just wanted to give everyone an update. The pages, located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~okcomanc/okgen.htm have been updated with new queries, new surname registrations and I have added a page for Comanche County records. I have put up the first part of a Register of Warrants Presented and Paid for McMaster Township, ca. 1904-1905 (The one I posted here earlier. Stay tuned, there is more to come!) Thanks, Becky Becky Smith Gallops bgallops@ionet.net
I am preparing these records to go on the Comanche County Web Page. These are from the original record books, rescued by my father from the Comanche County Courthouse when everything went on computer. They are Records of Warrants Presented and Paid for McMaster Township. In the interest of space, I only included the warrant # , date and person paid. The book does have amounts and remarks on each payment. Mostly they were salaries and paid outs to folks for what looks like casual labor. There are quite a few pages and as I get them typed up I will present them here first before putting them up on the page. BTW- This guy's handwriting was atrocious, so that's why you see (?) on some entries. I just did my best to decipher.
