    1. [OKCOMANC-L] Looking for reseaching decendants to return family info
    2. Because of Genealogy Shoppe, I am at times given articles that people purchase at auctions or found at homes that they have moved into...I will be sending several emails trying to get various articles back where they need to be..with the family. This packet of photos I am looking for anyone researching the Imhausen (Imhauser) family. They are taken during the WWII era...I will want to know the given name(s) that served and you are researching so I can place these with the correct descendants. If you know places stationed please include them. Hope to see you at Oklahoma's Cowboys & Indians Ancestor Seminar Mar 24 & 25 http://member.aol.com/OkCowboys/AndIndians.htm Kathy

    1. [OKCOMANC-L] Fletcher H.S. 1937 - DAWSON farm - Wisner funeral home
    2. kelliemv
    3. First, I was wondering if anyone would happen to know where to locate any year books or class pictures of Fletcher High School Class of 1937; in regards to Alvin B. Constant. Also, I was wondering if anyone knows of the "Lone Dawson Farm" or of Reed Dawson - son of Lone, I assume -. This is also in regards to Alvin B. Constant who drowned on the farm June 13, 1937. His friend, Reed tried to help save his life. This info. was obtained from his obituary. His obit. also mentions that he is a member of a pioneer family at Fletcher, but I haven't found the Constant name on the website for Comanche Co. His parents, John Rylie Constant and Lydia Esther settled on a farm 'near' Fletcher in 1902. In regards to Fletcher; it always appears as: "at Fletcher" or "near Fletcher" or "on Fletcher" what does that mean? Is it a town or just the way they spoke back then? confusing nonetheless. Does anyone know of any books on the history of this town that would include pioneer family surnames or anything of that sort? And, finally...I am looking for the WISNER Funeral Home. I could not locate it on the web...is it still in business or changed owners maybe? Thanks Kellie

    1. [OKCOMANC-L] Family Reunions article
    2. Hello, I hope you will forgive this somewhat off-topic post, but I feel it is important to share our experiences with others, and there is no better combination than that of our two favorite pastimes: Genealogy and Computers! I received a request (message given below) from a writer who is preparing an article for a highly regarded family computing magazine. He asks to be put in touch with anyone who will be helping to plan a family reunion this year, or who has done so in the past, by using information available online. I contacted the editor of FamilyPC, and was assured the article is being written for the Travel section of their June 2000 publication. If you would like to help Sam Perkins with his research for this article, please contact him at perki72@ibm.net The reunion site he refers to is on the Homespun mailing list webpage: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~homespun/ ...and the newest, the Oklahoma Reunions page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~okkingfi/family.htm Again, I apologize for straying a bit this morning! LEDGERWOOD.” [Transcribed from Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library’s IHS Microfilm Records.] Once more amid life’s changing scenes another soul has taken its journey to the Great Beyond. The subject of our sketch, George D. LEDGERWOOD, was born in McCameron Township, Martin County, January 9, 1859. He was the youngest child of the late George D. and Lydia (LYLES) LEDGERWOOD, and was one of eight children all having gone on but Mrs. Margaret CATRON, Rebecca J. LEDGERWOOD, Mrs. Drucilla HOSTETTER, Joseph M. and David of Canada. Mr. LEDGERWOOD was born on the same farm from which his body was brought to be laid beside the forms of those who have gone before. In his young manhood he identified himself with the Baptist Church at Scotland. For the last thirty years he has been a resident of Oklahoma and of Lawton, Oklahoma since 1901. Since leaving his early home he has made three or four trips back to the home of his childhood, there to look upon its familiar scenes, the hills, the pebble brook, the old orchard and the friends of his youth. Mr. LEDGERWOOD was never married but made his home most of the time with his sister, Rebecca. In following his request his body was laid to rest in Scotland Cemetery. He had been in failing health for the past two years, first having been stricken with paralysis and later with leakage of the heart, and for the last six weeks he had been confined to the hospital at Lawton, Oklahoma, where all that human hands could do or medical skill suggest was of no avail, and on Sunday, September 29, at 3 p.m., the spirit went home; aged fifty-nine years, eight months and twenty days. The old family circle is growing smaller; from the same home two years ago last July on Sunday morning “Uncle Jake” went home. 2. Okay folks, as list maintainer for this list, I would like to settle this issue of posts. This list is intended for queries and/or discussion regarding Comanche County geneaology and history. What LaRae is providing is really a great time saver for many people and certainly falls within the guidelines that have been set up. Many people don't have time to peruse the boards often and having these queries delivered directly to their mailbox is really helpful. I would like to see LaRae continue with these postings and let's thank her for taking the time to do so. As for the person who said "no more email", I don't know if you were referring to list mail in general, (i.e. you were wanting to unsub)but if that is the case, please refer to your welcome message for info on how to unsub or contact me and I can manually remove you from the list. Comanche County? Charles Chibitty, Comanche Code Talker, Recognized At Pentagon Ceremony. Assistant Secretary of Defense (Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence) Arthur L. Money today recognized the last surviving member of the elite Comanche Code Talkers, Charles Chibitty, in a Pentagon ceremony. Chibitty was presented with the Knowlton Award in recognition of his significant contributions to military intelligence efforts. Along with 16 other Comanche Indians, Chibitty was part of the Army's 4th Signal Company, also known as the Code Talkers. Like the Choctaws of World War I, and the Navajos in the Pacific Theater, the Comanche Code Talkers used their native language to prevent the enemies of the European Theater from intercepting messages of the allied troops during World War II. The unit was instrumental during the Normandy invasion. Chibitty was born near Medicine Park, Okla. on Nov. 20, 1921. After attending Haskell Indian School at Lawrence, Kan., he enlisted in the U.S.Army i! n January 1941. While in the Army, Cpl. Chibitty earned the World War II Victory Medal, the European Theater of Operations (5th Bronze Star) Victory Medal, the Europe African Middle East Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. In addition to his role as a Code Talker, Chibitty was a champion boxer in the Army. In 1989, the French Government honored the Comanche Code Talkers, including Chibitty, by presenting them the "Chevalier of the National Order of Merit." In 1992, former Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney presented Chibitty a certificate of appreciation for his service to the country. Chibitty has also received a special proclamation from the Governor of Oklahoma who honored him for his contribution both to Oklahoma and the United States. Nationally known for his Indian championship dancing, he currently resides in Tulsa, Okla. The Knowlton Award was established in 1995 by the Military Intelligence Corps Association. The award recognizes individuals who have contributed significantly to Army Intelligence, who have high standards of integrity and moral character, and who display outstanding degree of professional competence. It is named for Lt. Col. Thomas Knowlton who performed distinguished military service during the American Revolutionary War. He was appointed by George Washington to form a regiment expressly for intelligence services.
