    1. [OKCHOCTA] Re: Crews from Ft. Towson
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Crews, Gooding, Bacon, Spring Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/zZB.2ACI/16.17.19.2 Message Board Post: Jess Crews married Roxie, who was named after Roxie Gooding, wife of Henry Gooding who farmed several miles southwest of Goodland. Henry's father, George Gooding, was a sutler at Ft. Towson from his appointment April 20, 1831 to Nov. 26, 1840. Goodland became a mission in 1848 and people such as the Goodings moved there to settle. Henry's sister was there before 1860. So, it is possible that the Crews family also followed from the fort to Goodland, for farming. Their farms were several miles apart, as I recall from when I talked with relatives there in the 1980s. I found the photo of Roxie Crews' with her father and a sister. For some reason her brother and mother were not there. Perhaps the Choctaw boy several rows behind her was her brother. Several of the children next to her were probably Goodings. Photo is circa 1901-02 and includes a man with the church's session minutes - typical Presbyterian Church photo. The local minister and his cousin, also a minister, were on the far left of the photo. The current and the future director of Goodland, were next to Roxie. I have labelled them in a section of the original photo, attached.

    1. [OKCHOCTA] Re: Crews Marriage License
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/zZB.2ACI/16.17.19.1 Message Board Post: Jess Crews'family lived next to Goodland for most of his married life. His wife, Roxie, was born there about 1896 while her mother was working for the Goodland School/Home. She ID'd her father in a 1901 photo of the Goodland Church congregation. He is the fullblood Choctaw man at the front right, with three children (Roxie was the blurred one). She was living there in the 1980s with her son, next to the log cabin where she was raised. There is one Crews buried in the Goodland Cemetery, which is listed with Rootsweb. The witnesses to their wedding, Belle Grantham and Bella Gibbons, were teachers/workers at Goodland and were sisters (but not to Crews), I believe. They are all in photos at the Oklahoma Historical Society's collection on Goodland.

Surnames: Langham, Price, Handy Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/zZB.2ACI/458 Message Board Post: My grandmother was Phoebe Alice Langham b. 10 Jan 1872. IT m J M Blair 17 Jul 1888 in Dennison, Grayson, TX. Her father was Wiley Washington Langham b. 17 Dec 1838 and died I T (maybe near Stringtown, Atoka, OK. a few months after she was born. I need to find her mother who I suspect is Perlina Price, but I cannot yet find proof. Phoebe Alice Langham was an orphan, tho it appears she was never legally adopted. May have been placed a home at the GoodlandI school. I do not know what happened to her mother. She said one family took her but brought her back because they didn't like her. But she loved the time spent at the home of "Grandpa Handy." Perhaps a Handy or a Price raised her? She spoke and sang Choctaw. But she would not talk about her childhood. Does anyone recognize anything familiar in this. I'm at a dead end. Her marriage license does not have a mother's name listed. And I can't find anyone by the name I was given, Perlina Price in IT or Dawes Com. files, or Censu! s. Help! Chas
