Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/zZB.2ACI/67.220.1 Message Board Post: Sorry to say but you have the dates and places mixed. The present Goodland is the first one, there since 1834, is the one that had/has a school, children's home, post office, store, history and cemetery. It has never moved. It was known as "Old Goodland" for a few years in the early 1900s when the railroad started using "Goodland" for a crossing north of Hugo. The original and present Goodland is south of Hugo. The attached map is undated, but was from before the first railroad authorization of 1882 and before Spencer Academy was moved in 1878. Note the trail/road pattern at Goodland. The next attached map shows the 1882 railroad, but still not the newer Goodland nor Hugo, which were both north of "Old Goodland".

Surnames: Jacob, Crews Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/zZB.2ACI/16.17.19.2.1.1 Message Board Post: Thanks for Roxie (Jacobs) Crews' maiden name; I had never written it down and could not remember it. I talked with her several times in 1985-86 and she was a very talkative, likeable and interesting person. She did get too shy, however, to be videotaped by the Okla. Historical Society. She may have given an interview, anyway, to Marshall Gettys. When I showed her the 1901-02 photo of the Goodland Church group, she and I scanned it several times for identifying people before she suddenly stopped. Then she pointed to the large Choctaw man at the right front corner, next to Silas Bacon, and gasped, "That's Daddy!" Evidently she had never seen a photo of him when he was so young since she was only 5 or 6 then. I got her a copy after that, but it makes you kick yourself for not getting that much done for more people who had such a memorable past. Her grandmother came over the Trail of Tears but would never talk to her about it. She was probably born in the log cabin that still ex! isted as a barn in 1986, next to her house. She said her mother went to work for Goodland when they re-started the school in 1898. Her husband and her son both worked at the Goodland Home or Goodland Public School for most of their lives. (I don't understand how she had lived there for only "twelve years"? It may have been "all but twelve years".)
