I am looking for any information on Balis Larkin Smart and his wife Ellen Hignite. He may have gone by just Larkin Smart. I believe they had 3 children, Irene who died young, Willie who may have died in 1936 at the age of 25y in Hugo , and Gertrude who married Geo Benson Jones. Balis Larkin Smart died in 1956 in California. Ellen died sometime after 1913, and Larkin married Nina Mae Elliott. Is there anyone who can help with this family? Ellen's Mother was Jane Suggs. Thank you, Wanda

There she married another man. Apparently she had a daughter because when he was a young adult, a woman about his age (he was b. 1922) came up to him and told him that Nick was her mother. Probably the woman was not the daughter of Newton, unless she was pregnant when he died. Nick would have been born probably between 1900 and 1905. When I asked uncle if Nick was Indian, he said, oh yeah, she was. My uncle did not know of any other Ketchums living directly in the Soper area nor where Nick had come from. All this is for future reference in case you should come across anything. No reply to this is necessary on your part.

Maude lived at Lake Texoma (that is what she called it) the mailing address was Kingston, Oklahoma, when she died. I have a picture of her with a man, but she does not look that old in the picture, so it is probably Rooster Minchew. I am sorry I don't have any other information for you, I wish I did.

Could you tell me where Bob lived, was he in the Choctaw Co OK area? Also, about what age was he, and when and where did he die? I presently live in London, but will be returning to the states early next year. I think I have a picture of Newton and Nick that was a part of my grandmother's pictures. She was m. to Newton's brother. Newton and Nick have always been somewhat of a mystery to me since he died so young, and the only remaining member of the family who remembers things was my uncle (Newton's nephew) who was only 1 yr old when Newton died. If I can get a clue about Bob's age, where he lived, or was from, etc., maybe I will have something else to search for Nick with. Thanks! Nancy

There was flash flood, they had to stay on it all night, got pneumonia and died. She married Rooster Minchew, and he pretty much raised her three boys. After Rooster died, she married Bob Ketchum. Halito All: It was recommended that I try this information on this site. The Harper family seems to have been from Mississippi and Louisiana. However, I believe some migrated to Arkansas and Oklahoma. Of course many were rejected by the infamous col. William Ward when they applied for their scrip. I do also have a listing of more surnames which I will post under a different posting. These should be almost everyone from my family who attempted enrollment under the "Dawes Act". The visits my g-parents made would have been late 1800s or early 1900s. I know it's a long-shot but some family of the same surnames might continue to visit or stay in touch in some way. I would very much like to connect with descendants of the families my g-grandparents used to visit. Sincerely: Imafo __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
