I am trying to find info on a headline that was forwarded to me: Cherokee Democrat week of Aug 28th, 1914 "Three drown in Illinois River, near Horseshor Bend." I believe this may be my ggrandparents; John Cade R. Jones & Mary C. Sullivan-Jones (and their child Sarah F. Jones). Mary was a Cherokee Tribal member and a descendant of Nancy Ward, John who went by Cade Jones, was from the Whitley Co., KY. Jones line. Mary's mother: Sarah Roach-Sullivan had allotment lands near Eldon, as did Mary's Sister: Susan (Sarah) I. Sullivan-Waltrip... The family Bible back in OK says, " They drown while trying to save their daughter, near Tahlequah at the JONES family confernity picnic." What is a confernity picnic? I have searched for over a year and found nothing. Anyone familiar with the Cherokee Democrat? How I could get a hard copy of this article? And yes, Rhonda who posted on this line & I are related and in touch! Thanks everyone for your help. Charlotte in CA. enses@lightspeed.net
