Dear Listers, It's spring, and, with about 100 subscribers on this list, I thought a roll call was in order. Just send a quick message to the list with your research interests. This way we are all reminded of whom everyone else is looking for. Please change the subject line from "roll call" to something more appropriate to your topic. You asked for it -- here it is! The GenConnect boards are now be "gatewayed" to mailing list. When a board is gatewayed to a mailing list, every message posted to the GenConnect board will be forwarded to the corresponding mailing list. The message sent to the list will contain the URL of the specific post to allow the list subscribers to respond directly to the message. In this manner, gatewaying will enable more effective communication between the mailing lists and the GenConnect boards. Because of Genealogy Shoppe, I am at times given articles that people purchase at auctions or found at homes that they have moved into...I will be sending several emails trying to get various articles back where they need to be..with the family. This packet of photos I am looking for anyone researching the Imhausen (Imhauser) family. They are taken during the WWII era...I will want to know the given name(s) that served and you are researching so I can place these with the correct descendants. If you know places stationed please include them. Hope to see you at Oklahoma's Cowboys & Indians Ancestor Seminar Mar 24 & 25 http://member.aol.com/OkCowboys/AndIndians.htm Kathy

Hi Adding my two cents :) Yes, you can set your "date" for Y2K but it will not update your Windows 95-98 programs. You need a CD to do this. Microsoft were giving them free, earlier this year, they may still be, I can't say for sure but here is their URL and phone number, you can check for yourself. Hope this helps someone. http://microsoft.com/year2000 1-888-MSFT-Y2K HAPPY HOLIDAYS Janice/Texas ----- Original Message ----- From: Glenda Ramsey <searchcher@hotmail.com> To: <OKCHEROK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 12, 1999 7:50 AM Subject: [OKCHEROK] Y2K > Subject: Windows 95 & 98 > Y2K Computer tip > > You may think your PC is "Y2K" compliant and some little tests may > have actually affirmed that your hardware is compliant, but you'll be > surprised that Windows may still crash unless you do the simple exercise > below. Subject: Windows 95 & 98 Y2K Computer tip You may think your PC is "Y2K" compliant and some little tests may have actually affirmed that your hardware is compliant, but you'll be surprised that Windows may still crash unless you do the simple exercise below. Easy fix, but something Microsoft seems to have missed in certifying their software as Y2K compliant. This is simple to do, and VERY important. Click "START" Click on "SETTINGS" Double click on "CONTROL PANEL" Double click on "Regional settings icon (look for the little world globe) Click on the "Date" tab at the top of the page (last tab on the top right) Where it says "Short Date Sample" look and see if it shows a two digit year format: "YY" Unless you have previously changed it will be set incorrectly with just 2 Y's. It NEEDS to be 4 Y's. That's because Microsoft made the 2 digits setting the Default setting for Windows 95 and Windows 98. This date format selected is the date that Windows feeds ALL application software and will not rollover into the year 2000. It will roll over into the year "00" Click on the little arrow button in the window across from "Short Date Style" and select the option that shows "mm/DD/yyyy" or "m/d/yyyy". Be sure your selection has four Y's and not just mm/DD/yy. Then click "Apply" Then click "OK" at the bottom. Pass this info on to your PC buddies.
