Posted on: Carter County, Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Carter/11587 Surname: NEWNAM, LANE, JONES ------------------------- As I stated in my other posting, my husband's grandfather, John Gates JONES (b. 5 March 1883 in Grant, OK; d. 2 Sept 1954, bur, at Grady IOOF Cem. in Ringling, OK) was married to Johnnie Beatrice NEWNAM (b. 25 Aug 1890 in Texas; buried at Lone Grove, Carter County, OK). I don't have a birthplace for Johnnie Beatrice NEWNAM, but I do have other infor for her that may help. They were married in 1904. Johnnie Bea had two siblings: Viola Marie NEWNAM (b.06 July 1893 in Paris, Lamar County, TX; d. 24 Dec 1976, at Hugo,Choctaw County, Oklahoma)(married to a Mr. Van J. Gray)and Isom Harry NEWNAM (b. 25 June 1896, birthplace unkn; d. 03 Dec 1972 at West Meadows, Atoka, Oklahoma, believed unmarried). The parents of Johnnie Bea, Viola & Isom NEWNAM were John Elijah NEWNAM & his first wife, Josephine Francis "Josie" LANE (married 21 Dec 1888 in Paris, Lamar County, Texas). John Elijah NEWNAM was born 24 Dec 1866 in Oklahoma according to his daughter's testimony in the 1910 census, but this is not confirmed or disproved elsewhere. He died 03 July 1937 & is buried at Tushka, Oklahoma. Josie LANE was born in Texas 28 Feb 1868 and died 31 Jan 1908 (buried at Goodland, OK). He also had a 2nd wife, Francis Conder Carr, but they had no known children together. NOW: John Elijah NEWNAM's siblings: Bay NEWNAM (don't know if this way a male or a female). Sade NEWNAM (don't know if this one was a male or a female, but probably a female). Fannie Melissa NEWNAM, b. 10 July 1876, d. 15 March 1943 at Tushka OK. Allie NEWNAM (unknown if male or female. Lela B. NEWNAM, female, b. 07 Dec 1883, d. 21 March 1966, bur, Butler Cem, Atoka OK. The father of these siblings is believed to be John William NEWNAM (I have no other info on him). The majority of this info I received from another source but this is what I am working from myself as "leads-to-go-on." Johnie Beatrice NEWNAM was died a few years before my husband was born but my mother-in-law knew her well (since Johnnie Bea was HER mother-in-law). A lot of the direct-line info I have come from MY mother-in-law. The earlier NEWNAM sibling info comes from other researchers (alot from a Fannie Melissa NEWNAM descendant). Hope some of this will be helpful -- to you and any other NEWNAM researchers. This is all of the info I have on this family. Best Regards, Karin :)
