Posted on: Carter County, Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Carter/11581 Surname: Dallas, Cole ------------------------- Hi: Thanks for your reply. I got two replies, the first one was from Anna Marie (Glennan) Wilson who told me quite a bit about the Home. She quoted from "Indian Territory & Carter County Pioneers" 1840-1982. Copyrighted in 1983 by Taylor Publishing Co. Dallas Texas Newsfoto Publishing Co. San Angelo Tex in which there are two photos of the Confederate Home taken in 1916 and in 1920. There was a balcony on the second floor over the main entrance. She says she has heard but cannot verify that records of the residents of the Confederate Home were destroyed by accident. Supposedly the records were put on the front porch to put into storage but were taken with the trash instead????? She would like someone to verify this. That's all I know about that part. Then the second reply I got was from Jack Glenn who said that the publication of Indian Territory & Carter County Pioneers contains a brief write up plus pictures of the Old Soldiers Home in Ardmore. And said the book had some 45 people with the surname Dallas but no John or Rhoda listed in the index. Wish I could help more. John B. Dallas died July 3 1926 and Rhoda , his wife died July 22, 1926. They were quite old. He would have been 88 and she 86. They were very poor and had very little so to know they were taken care of in their last days is a little comforting. Good luck in your search and if by chance one of us finds the records we could let the other know.. Thanks for replying. Florence M.
