For veterans information on headstones and markers, go to www.cem.va.gov/hm.htm. There you wil find the eligibility criteria and how/where to get the forms you need. Also list a toll-free number for info - 1-800-827-1000. Hope this helps.
I am wondering if the Funeral Homes in the Area would know if this is possible?? Seems they would know "WHO" to ask, at least, since they know who to apply to for regular Veteran's benefits. Does this sound reasonable? If someone knows for sure please post to the list and share with all of us. Thanks; Elnora Frances Cook-Wyrick J. L. Hello Fellow Rooters, My g-grandfather is buried in an unmarked grave in a cemetery in OK. He was a Civil War veteran and was on a disability pension due to a war injury at the time of his death. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to get a name plate or grave marker provided by the U.S. Government and if so, how to go about getting it? Thank you for any help you can give me. Hello Berry, Thank you so much for the information. I have been searching for years for the info. on my g-grandfather, Rev./Dr. Jesse Lee WOOD who died Dec 16, 1896 in Ardmore. I've already called Harvey-Douglas Funeral home. However, the girl I talked to said that the information they have only goes back to 1898. I'm fairly certain that my g-grandfather was burried in Rose Hill cemetery, however, there was no headstone or marker and no one seems to be able to find him in the records. Although in the late 1970s, I visited the cemetery and someone showed us where he was supposed to be burried. Thanks again! Hello, I'm new to this list. Also, I recently came across the information below on the Rose Hill Cemetery in Carter Co., OK. These given names are too similar to our own family line not to be connected in some way. I'm hoping someone has more information on the following family. If so, please contact me. NELMS . Hello Carter County Kin, My KING family was in Carter County (Ardmore) by 1914. A. Q. KING and Emma V. KING were my g-grandparents. They farmed when they first moved to Ardmore, but lost EVERYTHING in a tornado that swept through the area and by 1946 I found them living at 208 Moore SE in the City Directory. A. Q. was Albert Quitman - he died in 1947 and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery. Emma died in 1958 and is buried next to Albert. I know that some of A. Q.'s brothers MUST have lived nearby - does anyone know any KINGS that were related? The boys were born in old Tishomingo Co, MS after 1850, their father was from Lincoln Co., TN. Emma King's first husband was a YOUNG - she was widowed with 3 children when she and Albert married about 1896. Some of her YOUNG children may have been with them in Ardmore - they were: Charles Young Ora Young Elbert Young We heard the boys moved to California - but cannot find their descendants. Emma and Albert's natural children were: Lela King - married to Gordon Brown Effie King - married to J. O. Holder Roger Quitman - married Rosa Elmore Ethel King - married to a Mr. Whitt If you know of any of these folks, I would be so glad to hear from you. There must have been other KINGS in Ardmore area who were kin to my g-grandfather, Albert Quitman King. Thank you for any information. Jo Ellan Hughes, Seattle
