Dear Lois: I searched the newspaper microfilm for any information - found only this. You will note that the name is listed as Williams, not Williamson. I was lucky to have found it - was on the classifed ad page, but I understand that years ago, obituaries were classified ads; paid for by the family. ********************************* Sun. Mar. 4, 1917 Veteran Died "Uncle Johnny" Williams, Confederate veteran, died about 6 o'clock Saturday evening at the Confederate Home. He was 87 years of age. The funeral services will be held this afternoon at three o'clock at the home of Berry Ball, 762 Carter. Avenue. *********************************** You might call the funeral homes to see if they have any record of the burial. Harvey Douglas Funeral Home - 580-223-2323 Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home 580-226-5556 Craddock Funeral Home 580-223-2727 Ardmore City Cemetery - Rosehill 580-226-3770 On of the librarians brought me a reference book, "Confederate Veterans of State of Oklahoma", published in 1913. It listed members of the organization, United Confederate Veterans. There were no Williamson surnames listed, but there were four J. Williams. J.H. Williams Captain Co.A Forrest's Tenn. Cavalry Wilburton, OK J.C. Williams Pvt. Co H 12th Tenn. Cavalry Marlow, OK J.M. Williams 1st Sgt. Co. F 42nd Mississippi Cameron, OK J.R. Williams Pvt Co. E 21st Mississippi Tamaha, OK Of course, "Uncle Johnny" might not have been a member of this organization, but have listed the above in the hope that it might be of help to you in relation to the surname. Best of Luck in your research. Kindest Regards, Anna Marie. He served in the Civil War with the Missouri State Guard and died March 3, 1917 in the Confederate Home in Ardmore. He was an early day harness maker in Ardmore (Indian Territory). His wife's name was Susan and they had at least 4 children, possibly 5 - John, Ben who died in April 1957, Zella who died in February 1946 and Josie who died in May 1939. Does anyone have any information on this family. Apparently they also lived in Texas and Arkansas prior to moving to Ardmore. I would be most appreciative of any information. Thank you.

Dear List: Could someone tell me the history of Sneed, Carter Co. - my mother told me and the 1900 census bears it out, that she was born near Healdton. I took the township and range information from the census to the Carter Co. assessor's office and they kindly pointed to the area on a map. It covered an area northeast of Healdton. Later I found a marriage certificate for a Great-Uncle and it says Sneed, Carter Co. This great-uncle lived near my grandfather, so am assuming that Sneed is where my mother was born. On a 1915 map Sneed is located northeast of Healdton. If anyone knows the history of the area, I would be so happy to add this to our family history book. Thanks in advance. Anna Marie.
