The 1941 Ardmore City Directory says that George J. Porterfield worked at the Lumbermen's Millwork and Supply. In 1946, only his wife, Gladys is listed in the directory, so he evidently died between 1941 and 1946. Gladys worked at Daube's store until 1972 when she retired. She died in 1975. George and Gladys had one adopted son, Jerry Porterfield, who was living in Oklahoma City in 1975. I would appreciate any information about the fire, George's death, or other information about the Porterfield family.

Her name was Elvia Jane Pace and she married Bennett Lavers in Carter County, OK. in or about 1915. Bennett was born in 1891 to Eliza and Overton Lavers. Overton was the son of George Lavers and Sallie Pickens. Bennett was 3/4 Chickasaw. Bennett died during WW1 in France.My grandmother was later married to Cecil L Canady. Any information regarding this branch of the Lavers family would be helpful.

The two cemeteries listed for Burneyville are Burney-Gaines,this is where many of the first settlers are buried,the other is Burneyville Cemetery,located 1/2 mile West of the Burney-Gaines Cemetery. One of my great grandfather's sisters was from te Ardmore area and owned land there sometime between 1900 - 1940.. She was Amanda Gregory who married Abe McDaniel in Hunt County, Texas in 1876. He died and later she married Dr. J. H. Hargrave and moved to the Ardmore area sometime after that. I found an M.J. Lee listed in the confederate veterans officers and members of John H. Morgan camp, no. 107, UCV, Ardmore, Indian Territory 3/20/1896, I believe this to be him but I can't find any other info in any other search I am trying to trace my indian heritage there were stories of him being a U.S. Marshal but my father's memory at 72 is foggy.
