Posted on: Carter County, Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Carter/1247 Surname: Taylor, Brown ------------------------- Napoleon Bonapart Taylor and his wife S. C. Brown were living at the Confederate Soldiers Home in Ardmore, Carter Co., at the time of their deaths. N. B. died 3 Jul 1928 and S. C. died 29 Dec 1929. I am looking for decendants of this couple. According to family tradition they had three sons and two daughters. I am a great grandaughter through Henry L. Taylor. Any help would be much appreciated.

Posted on: Carter County, Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Carter/1245 Surname: Finley, Gaither ------------------------- There was a Finley family and a Gaither family that lived in Wilson when I did. I finished high school there in 1961. Gaither isn't that common of a name. Finley is a name that tied into the Daniel Boone tree. I know some Boone descendents made it to TX / OK, as did some Finleys. There was a Finley family in Hopkins CO, TX in ~1880. Details I do not know. Anyway, this might help. I believe the 1900 and 1910 census's are posted on one of these forums. Jimmy
Posted on: Carter County, Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Carter/1244 Surname: Darling, Worrel, Dunn, Kimbrell ------------------------- I do not have a distinct recall on Dimijohn, but do not believe it was really a "town." It was one of those "areas" that existed in the middle of nothing. As I recall, it was south of Wilson a short ways and there was also a creek (if you would call it that)named Dimijohn.
Posted on: Carter County, Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Carter/1243 Surname: kimbrell ------------------------- My grandmother's maiden name was Kimbrell. She was called Artie, but full name was Arkatie. She married Earl Tynes. Her grandfather James Kimbrell was born in Hewitt in the 1840's. There is a bunch of Dunns, Worrells, and Kimbrells buried in the Hewitt cementary. Although I was born and raised in Ardmore, I have found little about Hewitt and James Kimbrell. He and his wife Brittianna are buried there. So is William Oscar Kimbrell and his wife, who is a Dunn. Let me know who you are seeking and i'll help all I can.

Posted on: Carter County, Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Carter/1241 Surname: WILLIAMSON, CORNWELL, HATHCOCK, ADKINS, SNIDER ------------------------- Dr. T. C. Williamson (shown in the 1890 Pickens, IT, census as "C. Williams, Dr.) was living in Healdton, (now Carter County) in 1890 with two males and one female. It is believed the two males were his sons, Thomas Dorsey Williamson and Maxmillian Wade Williamson, who married soon after. (T. D. married Susan Adkins and Max married Martha Jane Snider - her family also lived in Healdton in 1890). Dr. W.'s daughter, Rhoda, 16, was already married to Lucian Hathcock, a widower, and was also living in/around Healdton with Lucian's two young children. Dr. Williamson's second wife, Rhoda Cornwell Mathews Williamson, had died the year before. T. C.'s 3rd wife's name was "M. E".; she's buried in the Brown, Pottwatomie county, OK, (near Tecumseh) cemetery, and it is believed she was a widow, but no one seems to know much else about her except that she was called either "Katie" or "Molly/Mollie", and she was the female shown in the 1890 census in Healdton. They all moved to Brown, which they essentially established, en masse not too long after this census was taken. Any information about any of these folks (particularly the Williamson family patriarch and M. E.) will be most appreciated. If others who may have moved at the same time are known, why would they have moved all at once and in a group?.

List, I am searching for an ALICE GRIFFIN that was born in December 1873 in Missouri. Family may have then gone to TX. Alice had either a father or a brother named JEFFERSON (called Jeff) GRIFFIN and their parents may have been born in SC. A more detailed explanation follows: I have been searching for a GRIFFIN family that lived in Carter Co. OK in 1900-1910 in hope they could give me a lead to my Grandfather, Thomas A.(name unproved right now) GRIFFIN's family. Thomas died on Feb. 26, 1909 in Carter Co. OK. (buried in Rose Hill Cem. in Ardmore OK.) when my Mom was 10 years old. Thomas had 2 cousins living in Wilson, OK between 1900-1910.....Jeff or Jefferson GRIFFIN and Alice GRIFFIN COE (married to Benjamin Coe b. Cooke Co. TX). I don't know if Jeff was a father or brother to Alice GRIFFIN COE. In a census report Alice GRIFFIN COE said she was born in Dec. 1873 in MO. Thomas A. GRIFFIN, according to 1900 census of Chickasaw Nation Indian Territory (now Carter Co. OK), was born in AL. & said both his parents were born in SC. I am hoping to find the parents of both Thomas A. GRIFFIN, Jefferson GRIFFIN and Alice GRIFFIN COE. I will try & follow any suggestions any of you can offer me. Nell Adair Lewis

Posted on: Carter County, Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Carter/1235 Surname: ------------------------- Hugh, I forgot to mention dates...my remembrances of Roberta were pre 1940. Jamie probably graduated from high school around 1949. Roberta's parents were there across the street from mine well into the fifties; and maybe even sixties. Seems I recall her Mom living there as a widow. I left Ardmore in 1955 so I lost tract.. Tania
Posted on: Carter County, Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Carter/1234 Surname: ------------------------- Sorry, Hugh, Guess I was too small to remember anything about Roberta's wedding. If I remember Roberta's md. name or run across anything in my Ardmore/Carter Co. records I will let you know. They did not show up in my Carter County book. Tania
Posted on: Carter County, Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Carter/1233 Surname: Hefley ------------------------- Thank you Tania! This type of information is very helpful in establishing the families whereabouts. If you can recall any dates that correspond to these events, that would be great. Do you recall if Roberta married in Ardmore or Carter Co.. There might be a record somewhere. According to this SSDI info, Tom Hefley died in Trenton, Tn, so I suppose the family moved back this direction at some point! The names of these two children will be most helpful! Thank you again, Tania!!!
Posted on: Carter County, Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Carter/1231 Surname: ------------------------- Hugh: Don't know that I have much info to offer you..other than that Mr. and Mrs. Tom HEFLEY and daughter Roberta lived on the corner of G Street and Second Avenue,NW, across the street from my parents (James and Elaine COLBERT) in Ardmore (Carter County). They were very kind to me as a child and their teenaged daughter Roberta petted and "played" (babysat??)with me when I was very small. She was the only child in that family that I knew of, unless she had an older bro or sis that I never saw. Mrs. HEFLEY was an elegant and gracious "Southern Lady". Roberta went away to college, married (did know her md. name but have forgotten) and moved back to TN or VA. >>>>The HEFLEYs had a cat named "Peaches", we mustn't forget about him!!! The other HEFLEY family, I did not know as well..James HEFLEY; I was only slightly acquainted with his daughter, Jamie, who was four or five years older than me. Jamie also was a very sweet person. Don't know if she had siblings or not. Good luck, Tania
