I do know that Love county has the records for some of the cemeteries in Love County which is right next to Carter. I also know that Carter has alot of old records of different types. Also one of the Libraries in Ardmore have the old Ardmorites and you might be able to find their obits. The Ardmorite is also in the Archives in Oklahoma City if that would be closer. Did you just get the dates from the funeral home? Our funeral home has alot of information on the sheets they use, sometimes even the obit. Maybe if someone lived in Ardmore they might check out the papers for you. I don't know if the Ardmoreite does that or not.

It is believed to have been owned and run by John Criner in the mid to late 1800's. If anyone could help me or maybe tell me of a book that would talk about old trading post in the Indian Territory I would appreciate it. I know a John Criner owned land in the area but there is no mention of the trading post in the books I found. Just mention of the post office which possible was located there.

    2. In answer to both inquiries: Try the genealogy library at the Greater SW Historical Museum in Ardmore. Mr. Bill Hamm at bhamm@brightok.net may be able to assist. I'm not sure if they will have the census but doesn't hurt to ask. I do know that they have an old school directory that tells about all the schools that were in Carter County at one time. These folks are very helpful and at least it's a start.
