William Grant Copeland was married to Mary Jones and they lived in Ardmore from the late 1800s until around 1903, when they moved to Wheeler Co., TX. My great grandparents are buried in the Rosehill Cemetery. My brother, first cousin, and I plan to travel to Ardmore this week to research the family in the court house and library, and then visit the graves of our great grandparents in the cemetery. Any suggestions that you could give us would be appreciated. We plan to spend the day of Friday, Jan. 26th there. We will be researching the family of Allen Kendall Brown, his wife, Eliza Lykins Brown, and their children. One of their children, Kelly Brown, (our grandfather) was an attorney who lived in Ardmore until about 1915 and served as a Representative in one of the early Oklahoma Legislatures from Ardmore. My mother, Martha Elizabeth Brown, was born in Ardmore in 1911. Any help or advice you could give us would be greatly appreciated. Richard Rand "Dick" Lindsly --- Frisco, Texas

    3. Tommie: I just wrote you a looong letter on the CROSSWAITEs and CRINERs in the wrong HTML and the list would not accept it. Will you please contact me at mailto:aeptcp@preferred.com and I will try to forward it to you at your e-mail> I tried (tlhorn@brightoak.net but doesn't work..hopefully the format will be acceptable!! I refer you to Kerry Armstrong's website on James Logan COLBERT, there are a lot of Criners listed there: http://www.uftree.com/UFT/WebPages/kma/COLBERT/Index.htm I have more info on McALESTER/McALESTER connections to both my mother's CROSTHWAITE's and to the CRINERs. McALISTER and McALESTER families are both related to the CRINER/COLBERTs. Anyone know if they are the same family?? And is it possible the town of McAlester, OK was named for Col. James Jackson McALESTER (Lt. Gov of OK before 1820) who md. Rebecca BURNEY g-gr-dau of James Logan COLBERT? He is buried in the Masonic Cemetery in McAlester, Pittsburg County, OK. George CRINER who md. Minnie McALISTER was also a BURNEY descendant, it looks like he and Rebecca BURNEY were first cousins, which makes me think the McALISTERs and McALESTERs might be the same family. Any ideas? Tania

    3. Posted on: Carter County, Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Carter/1510 Surname: Hatcher ------------------------- I am researching the Hatcher family on fathers' side of family. They lived in Carter County in 1920 and are listed in the census. My grandfathers' name was Ruby Eugene Hatcher but they had listed him as Dean. My grandmothers' name was Carrie and they had three daughters--Flossie, Ruby, and Ruth. My grandmother is also on the census and is listed as Allie Hatcher; a son is listed also named Floyd, aged 16. I have another uncle listed whose name was Earl. He had a wife named Effie and a daughter named Gladys. The township they lived in may have been Hewitt; it is dark and unreadable on the census. If you are related and would be willing to pass on information, I would greatly appreciate it. I never got to know my grandfather or his side of the family growing up but would like to know them if only on paper. Their family was split up when they were young. Thanks in advance for any information that you may have and are willing to share. Sincerely, Judy Bates ritassister@aol.com Please feel free to e-mail me anytime.

You are a wealth of information . I never tried the searches, dummy me. I have visited with Jack and we are still trying to find more on that trading post. I am going to have to go to the library and check out the censuses in that area. I have read the Love County History book and it talks of the cattle drives that came just west of Overbrook, near the old McAlester Cemetery, then on toward Lone Grove. It doesn't talk about a trading post though.
