Jackie, I'm interested to know what your connections are to the SIZEMORE and PATE families. I am kin to branches of these families that have connections to IVEY, COOK, JOHNSON, HALE, and some of the other families you mentioned in your list. Please contact me at retrofit@flash.net. I will be glad to share whatever information I have that you might be interested in having. John Mallory Land - McKinney, TX
For anyone interested in learing more about DNA Testing for Genealogical Purposes, you might like to read the article that appeared in the Boston Globe about our family project. Since the article appeared, my first cousin, Lester Van Glennon, also matches the three men mentioned in the article, proving that we are all family. It is very difficult to trace lineage in Ireland as there are few remaining records after the destruction by fire of records in Dublin during the Anglo-Irish War. There has been much correspondence between many different Glennon/Glennan families in the U.S. and in County Roscommon, Ireland, and we were all thinking that we had to be related, but there were just no records to prove it. Now DNA testing has made it a certainty that we are "cousins". Most genealogist whose ancestors came from what is now the Republic of Ireland and were Catholics can not trace back any further than the 1840s. DNA Testing is offering a way for people to at least determine kinship. I think you will find the article interesting. There are several more Glennon men to be tested, and we are looking forward to the results. http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/175/focus/We_are_family+.shtml
I've been reading your messages concerning the Benhams in the southern counties of Oklahoma. My grandfather was John N. Benham,Jr. Other than the fact that he was born in Indiana in 1869, I know nothing about him. He married Sarah Frances Rice around 1897or 1898, probably in Jefferson, Carter, or Love County. They lived in Ringling, Tishamingo, and Atoka that I know of. Both died in Atoka. Could there be a connection to your Benhams? Would really appreciate any information. Ann Benham-Burgess
Fellow listers, Here’s an appeal to all of you to pull out the copies of the SSAN application forms you already have filed away in your "stuff" and post them at Rootsweb. I just did it for the ones I have and it’s really easy. :O) 1. Go to: http://www.rootsweb.com/ 2. Scroll down the home page to Social Security Death Index and click on it. 3. Enter the name of the person who is on the form you have into the search engine. 4. When the right entry comes up, go over to the far right and click on "Add Post-Em" link. 5. The "Fill in the blank" form will come up and you can type in the information just like it’s printed on the form you have in your hands! 6. Include all the information in the order that it is entered on the form, so that others have the advantage of all that information. NOTE: You don’t have to type in the SS Number for the person as the Rootsweb program includes it. Since the cost of these forms will be increasing substantially next week, it would be good if EVERYONE put out the information they already have. Then whoever else is searching for that same person won’t be required to pay the new price for the same form you have in your files. And vice-versa! If we all "plant seed," we’ll all get the crop! And thank Goodness for Rootsweb providing this service to all of us for FREE! Be well & God bless, Kate Beaugrand Cook Minnesota kbcook@cfaith.com or k.b.cook@worldnet.att.net
I just thought I would spread the word that the fees for getting a copy of a Social Security Application are going up drastically on 1 July 2001. If you apply before then you will be charged the old amount which is now $7 if you know the number, and $16.50 if you do not. The new fees are posted at: http://www.ssa.gov/foia/foia_guide.htm It appears that the increases are more than substantial, they are gigantic. This means that the time for procrastination is over. The address you need to send them to is: Social Security Administration Office of Central Records Operation Attention: Freedom of Information Workgroup PO Box 17772 300 N. Thanks Everyone, I think seven of you sent me the obit or told me where I could get it. Thank you very much. I also sent all evening reading all the other stories about the Skaggs for the Years 1997- June 2001. Now I will read about my other Carter & Marshall Co surnames. Fran, I just emailed you and told you I did not find a family connection. I was wrong. Charles L Skaggs is actually Charles Levine Skaggs, Hallamae's husband, born in Wilson, Carter Co., OK and is in my database. Jim Skaggs
CORRECTION: It's ardmoreite.com
If you will go to the Daily Ardmoreite.com site you can see obits from about 1998-99 to present......I remember that obit being in one of this week's papers but don't know if it was Thursday, Friday or Sunday. But, shouldn't be too hard to find.
Would love to hear from you. e-mail address jbto@aol.com. G.C. lived in Calexico, CA in 1937. Hope there is a connection. Waiting to hear from you. Judi
List, Is there anyone out there that will check the local papers and see if there is an Obit for Hallamae Skaggs that passed away this week in Wilson. I do not know if she is a relative or not. If you find the obit, please type the contents and sent it by email. Jim Skaggs

Does someone have a history of Carter Co., Ok., and could you check and see if there is a Hays/Hayes family listed? My John Hays/Hayes was probably in Carter Co. between 1860 and 1887. He died there in 1887 and is buried in the Lone Grove Cemetery. John Hays/Hayes (b. 1813) was my ggggrandfather. Thanks for any help. Dorothy
I have just found that my gggrandparents (John White and his wife Mary) are buried in Lone Grove, Carter Co., Ok. cemetery. Is there anyone who is familiar with this cemetery and can give me a location (lot # or Section) where they are buried? They died in 1887 and 1895 so they would probably be in the older part of the cemetery? Can someone give me the name and address of the caretaker of this cemetery, or the name of the funeral home that might have records? I understand they have tomb stones and I would like to go see their graves, and need a little bit of direction as to how to find them. Thanks for any help on this. Dorothy
