Can someone give me the address to the Mt. Olive Cemetery? My husbands great great grandfather, Jo Tom (JT) Stanley was buried there in 1925. Hopefully I can trace his family back farther with more info. Thanks, Jana Stanley
William Wallace Lavers, married Mary Jane Mc Connell. William was B. Nov. 4, 1860/61 in Georgetown PEI D. June 8, 1931 in New Perth. He was a carpenter, mason, & builder. Worked for Federal & Provincial Govt. on Wharves, bridges & roads. Mary Jane B. Sept 28, 1868 in Scotland Their children were: David A. Dingwell Lavers, Franklin Charles " Margaret Jane " John William (Jack)" Jessie E. " Georgina Mae " (Your Gmother) Bertha " Now what do you have???? Mildred
My grandmother Georgina May Lavers was born in Georgetown PEI on January 14th 1900 to William Lavers and a MacConnell. She married William A.R. Irving in Pictou County, N.S. in about 1920. Her son, my father, has lived in Yarmouth, N.S. since 1946. So, Lavers is French? Did they flee from the Huguenots or because they were Huguenots? And what would have been the French form of the name?
Bill and Lorena Benham does not ring a bell, but I have some new info coming from Hughs county and I be on the lookout. My bunch came from Stone County Mo about 1877 and settled in Love, Hughes and Marshal counties in OK.
Ann, This is a real shot in the dark, but have you heard of the couple, Bill and Lorena Benham (at one time lived in Muskogee, OK)? Lorena
I know some folks on genealogy lists only want to see names, dates, and places. if you are that type of genealogist, punch your delete key now, because I can't believe you are a true genealogist if that is all the information you want. This story or poem was sent to me by another very good genealogist. Bud Caudle The Story Tellers..... We are the chosen. My feelings are in each family there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. To me, doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the story tellers of the tribe. All tribes have one. We have been called as it were by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us: Tell our story. So, we do. In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before now and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told the ancestors you have a wonderful family you would be proud of us? How many times have I walked up to a grave and felt somehow there was love there for me? I cannot say. It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who am I and why do I do the things I do? It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds and indifference and saying I can't let this happen. The bones here are bones of my bone and flesh of my flesh. It goes to doing something about it. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish. How they contributed to what we are today. It goes to respecting their hardships and losses, their never giving in or giving up, their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family. It goes to deep pride that they fought to make and keep us a Nation. It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it for us. That we might be born who we are. That we might remember them. So we do. With love and caring and scribing each fact of their existence, because we are them and they are us. So, as a scribe called, I tell the story of my family. It is up to that one called in the next generation to answer the call and take their place in the long line of family storytellers. That, is why I do my family genealogy, and that is what calls those young and old to step up and put flesh on the bones. ( Unknown Author )

The elderly man had been dead for at least four days, it was said. Rutherford BRETT, county attorney, who with city and county officers investigated the case, said that Garnand had apparently succumbed to heart disease as he sat in a chair before the gas stove, possibly Monday night. The house was tightly locked, the door bolted, the fires burning high. Garnand lived alone. He was seen last Monday by a granddaughter. A neighbor, Mr. EDWARDS, who missed seeing Garnand about his place for a day or two finally investigated on Thursday afternoon. Peering through a window, he saw the dead man, in the chair by the fire, and notified officers. Gas Shut Off Gas company officials were called and cut off the gas supply and the officers had to wait for a considerable time until the little house had cooled inside to permit them to remove the body. The body was in bad condition and was taken in charge by Harvey funeral home. Brett said that Garnand had suffered for some years from high blood pressure and heart trouble. There was no evidence other than that he had died of an attack of this ailment. It was thought at first his death might have been caused by carbon monoxide poisoning, but the physical facts did not bear out this theory. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, in the chapel of the Harvey funeral home with Rev. M. L.JERNIGAN officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Henry WATTS, Willis TENNYSON, Tom KYLE, Floyd RANDOLPH, Howard MUSGROVE, and Kelly BAKER. Survivors include four brothers, John Garnand, and E. D. I am looking for information for a (Mrs E. E. Elmore) who in 1910 in Ardmore, Carter Co., was the Guardian of Fannie & Roy H. White, minors, heirs of Lewis H. (dec'd) and Jimmie (Wicker) White. The land left to them was in Van Zandt Co., TX. Jimmie (Wicker) White died 1918 in Berwyn, Carter Co., OK, and family legend says that Fannie White committed suicide in 1919 or 1920. Would you know how Mrs E.E. Elmore relates to this family, and is she part of your Elmore family? Appreciate any information you might have about this.
