Is there (or was there) a college in Atoka? (I noticed a University Avenue on an Atoka street map). <snip> There was a college for girls or an Acadamy in the late 1800 early 1900's in Atoka. I don't know the name of it, but if you will go to the Confederate Memorial Museum Page you will find the name. Then you might write to Gwen Walker at the Museum/Historical Society and see if she can supply you with the answer to your question. I was born and reared in Atoka, but have been away for 30 some years and I am not familiar with a street name University. Are 1910 census records available in the Atoka courthouse? <snip> The census records are housed at the Atoka County Library. No, they do not/will not do a look up for you. Let me know what you want, and I might be able to locate it here in MO. Independence has a wonderful Genealogy Library. How far back do the marriage records go? I believe my grandparents may have married there in the late 1890's. <snip> I don't know how far back the marriage records are. If you will look at the Atoka County Marriage, you will see some of the older dates. I was only able to grab a few. I will be getting the rest, hopefully on my next trip home. Ruth Atteberry Adams
