I know that a lot of you really enjoy the occasional chats held at ArkansasFamilies.net, and I have been thinking that since we don't always have time for them, and since no time is convenient for everyone, that perhaps we should create a mailing list to make up for that. A place to share genealogy info, tips, hints, personal histories, anecdotes, and any information you may want to share. Discussing of all things Arkansas, from Arkansas surnames to Southern recipes, old stories, photos and folklore. And hopefully, a place to find lost relatives.....This is the next best thing to dropping by a cousins' for coffee! :o) Keep in mind, this list WILL accept attachments, (i.e. photos, documents, etc...) but the way the list will be set up, there is no chance of virus' making it through. If you are interested, drop me a line, off list, and I'll give you the information needed to join. Please, this is NOT a RootsWeb list, so make sure you reply OFF LIST. 3. Melody, There is a man and wife in Oklahoma that have a collection of photos that they copy and sale. I bought one(for an OKC building my GGrandfather built) at Crafters Mall in Edmond, OK. I think I paid $18.00 for it. It is about the size of an 8x10 and it is matted. I would be glad to look and see if there are any for Durant, OK. BUT, their name and number are stamped on the back as: First Rate Company Oklahoma Images 405-749-0644. Let me know about looking, I feel sure they will have at least one there for sale. 1. [OK-VINTAGEPHOTOS] new genealogy newsgroup announcement
    2. acp
    3. Newsgroup Announcement: For those of you who are familiar with the USENET binary newsgroups, there is a new one for genealogy researchers. The name of the newsgroup is: alt.binaries.e-book.genealogy Shortly, there will be a corresponding "discussion" group for the new newsgroup: alt.binaries.e-book.genealogy.d NEWSGROUP PURPOSE: The purpose of the new newsgroup (alt.binaries.e-book.genealogy) is to provide a place to share scanned genealogy books, genealogy books from CD and other printed genealogical materials. This is where you may find and share those old, out of print or never published materials and unidentified photos, which people have stuck in their closets. :-) This newsgroup will be of greatest interest to those who are already familiar with USENET and newsgroups, specifically binary newsgroups. If you don't know about newsgroups, and the huge amount of genealogical info that flows freely across USENET each day, then please ask one of your computer literate friends to explain how to access newsgroups (sometimes relanguaged to the term "discussion groups"). List Admin: If I have accidentally sent this to a list where I'm no longer a member, will you please post it to the group for me?? Note: This is NOT spam. I'm making an announcement about a free newsgroup. As anyone familiar w/ USENET knows, there is no profit in this at all. My only interest is -- I want more people to subscribe, because more group members will mean more information is being shared (some might help with my brickwalls). :-)

    1. [OK-VINTAGEPHOTOS] From List Mom - Vacations and Unsubscribing
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, It is that time of year when some of you will be leaving on Vacations. You might want to consider unsubscribing from the list while you are gone and then resubscribing when you return. The easiest way to do this is by using Password Central. http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will receive a e-mail list of all Rootsweb Mailing Lists you belong to. You can unsubscribe using this e-mail. Save it and you then have a list of mailing lists you want to re-subscribe to. When you return, you can check the Archives for this list at http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ Just type in the name of the list and you can check the messages for the dates you were gone. The following was shared with me and I think it is one of the best Maps I have seen showing the growth and history of the United States. http://www.animatedatlas.com/movie.html I appreciate each of you and know that it is because of you our list is the success it is. 1. [OK-VINTAGEPHOTOS] From List Mom - A few thoughts and reminders
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, It is time again for one of my information messages. First of all I want to thank each of you who go out of your way to follow the list rules. I belong to many lists in my research and truly feel you are the best list members out there. If you are enjoying this list and would like to know what other genealogical lists Rootsweb has for you, go to John Fuller's site located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html It is the best source for Genealogical mailing lists that I know of. If you would like to visit the archived messages for this list or any Rootsweb List you may go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com and type in the name of the list and from there you can search by date. There is a great Rootsweb site, Password Central, you can go to if you want to find out what Rootsweb lists you are a member of or need to unsubscribe from a list, just follow the instructions. http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ To unsubscribe from any Rootsweb list send only the word UNSUBSCRIBE to XXXX-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM Naturally exchange the XXXX with the name of the list and the L with a D if you are on the Digest List. I have very few rules on the lists I take care of; the main one is to treat your fellow members as you would like to be treated, also Roll Calls will be called by me, with a beginning date and an ending date. The posting of virus warnings, chain letters, political announcements, current events and test messages are NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me, KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net Please remember that I am here, working behind the scenes. When an offending message is posted, just DELETE it. Know that I am most likely taking care of the problem personally with the person who posted the message. When you send your unhappiness to the list you just continue on the problem both for the members and for myself. If you are concerned that I have missed the message, you can send me a message at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net. Would you like to see the growth in the United States between 1650 and 1983? This is a great visual. I have shared it before but I am sure we have many new members since then. http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~stephan/Animation/us.gif This is your list. I am only here to take care of it for you and to make sure it runs smoothly. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please feel free to send them to me. 1. [OK-VINTAGEPHOTOS] From List Mom - A few items to help you.
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fuller’s Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any rootsweb list all you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will received an e-mail of all lists you belong to and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to. Always know that I will be more than happy to help you if you are having problems unsubscribing, you only need to ask. Please send this request to KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net not to the entire list. If you would like to visit the archived messages of this list or any other Rootsweb mailing list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search and from there you can search by dates. There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. When sending a posting to the list it would help if you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line. Doing this also might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. Many members are on many many lists and when they see a subject line that reads "My Ancestors" they just delete it. 2. When posting a query regarding a surname it would help all of us if you would put your surname in CAPS. This way the members can easily pick out the surnames you are looking for. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 5. Remember to keep your Virus protection up to date and never open any attached file unless you are 100% sure what it is and even then you are taking a chance. 6. Now, the hardest thing is, when one of our own, a fellow member becomes upset about a posting from one of us. It is so hard not to jump in and add our two cents when they send their unhappiness to the entire list. I want you to know how much I appreciate it when you just let these posting go by and delete them. Know that I am behind the scenes taking care of the problem. If you ever have a concern that I might have missed a message that needs addressed you are welcome to contact me during the day at Kathleen.burnett@era.com or in the evenings at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net. Please remember, so that this list is better for each of us, the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc., in other words Spam is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and your willingness to help make this list the success it is. It is your list and is here for your benefit. If you have suggestions or comments you would like in future reports, you only need to send them to me. After receiving details about the legislation needed, the attendees will proceed to the Capitol to speak with their legislators about the importance of completing the funding for the new Oklahoma History Center by authorizing the sale of the final $18 million in bonds needed to complete the project. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the newly reopened Research Library and also to take a "hard hat" tour of the new History Center site. The OHS parking lot will be reserved for your convenience and shuttle vans will be available to move you around once you are parked. All three venues -- lobbying at the Capitol, the Library tour and the hard hat tour -- will be available beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continue until 3 p.m. We hope you can join us at the rally and encourage you to invite others who believe in the future of Oklahoma and who have an interest in her past. If you cannot be there, you can still support the effort by writing, calling or e-mailing your legislators to urge their support. For more information, please call the Oklahoma Historical Society at 405-521-2491. We hope to see you there. Sincerely, Oklahoma Genealogical Society Board of Directors P.O. 3. If you have not visited the Oklahoma Survey and Virtual Cemetery website. (Oklahoma Cemeteries Mailing List Homepage) lately, you should take a moment and check out all of the cemetery data that has been added and is being added daily. http://www.rootsweb.com/~okcemete/okcem.htm This website is becoming one valuable research tools on the internet, for those looking for the missing graves of their ancestors of Oklahoma. As you enjoy the information take a moment and send a quiet thank you to the many many volunteers who have made this site possible for us. These volunteers spend their free surveying cemeteries, taking photos and placing the data online so we can have access to the information from our homes.. They do it only for the love of helping their fellow Oklahoma researchers, never ask for thanks or regeneration. I for one am in awe of this kind of dedication. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
