The new home for the ok-veterans list is ready to go. In a few minutes, I'll send out personal invitations to the subscribers of this list who wish to join the new group will be able to do so. I can not add members directly. It should be a link you can click that will let you 'accept' the invitation to join the new group. You may need to check your spam folder as I can't say when such will be delivered. If you don't find an invitation in your email you may also go to this site - https://groups.io/g/OK-VETERANS and select Join Group. You may post to this list today, but it all ends tomorrow, 3/2. As of now, the ok-veterans list has 96 subscribers. In light of Rootsweb's decision to close this list and every other list on March 2nd, with the permission of the current list owner, a friend and I have set up a new home for this list. In my next email, I'll send you further information regarding this and how to join the new home for this list. Tim Stowell Chattanooga
As you may have noticed, Rootsweb mail lists are back on-line! I hope everyone will begin utilizing this list and the many others available at Rootsweb. If you have any questions about this list please fee free to send me a message! There are still some bugs to be worked out. The mailing list is still text only and attachments are not allowed. You can now manage your own account to make changes to how the mail list works for you. However to do that you will need to set up an account. This is to make the mailing lists more secure from outsiders trying to harvest email addresses. Stephen-- These records are found on www.ancestry.com. I found one for your James Oliver Parsley. It shows he was born Oct 30, 1899. He was living in Fairbanks, Major County, Oklahoma. His occupation was farmer. His nearest living relative was Mrs. Mary L. Parsley. He indicated he was of medium height, slender build, and had brown eyes and black hair. The original records are held at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. Their web site is www.nara.gov. I would be happy to send you the copy of the registration card I printed off if you will send me a SASE. It isn't the clearest copy but the records on ancestry.com aren't perfectly clear. You can definitely read it though. You could also obtain this record and any services records from the National Archives. You may contact me privately at foaly@cox.net if you wish. Ancestry.com has the WWI draft registration cards. Check your local library to see if they subscribe to ancestry.com Many libraries subscribe and offer free in library access to their patrons. I am interested in Norman GRANT a WWI veteran. I have a copy of his registartion paper dated June 5, 1917. His obituary says he served overseas with the US Army duting WWI. I think his records must have been lost in the fire in the 1970's. How would I find out what part of the army Norman served with? He lived in Drumright. Thanks. Bill White

Check this webpage. It is a description of a book that might have his serial number. You should be able to find this somewhere in a library. I hope someone can give me some helpful veteran research pointers. I've just begun to research the military service of my late uncle (late father's late brother), Lt. James 'Jimmy' Houston SALMON, who was from Oklahoma City and served as a pilot in WWII. I want to find out what unit he served with and hopefully his service number so I can request his military records from NARA. However, my search has been complicated by the fact that he died at age 26 in 1948, when flying for the Oklahoma Air National Guard (his B-26 caught fire and exploded). My late grandparents did not save any of his military records (nor his social security number) -- only some postcards and a letter with no return address he sent them in 1943 -- so I do not have his service number, nor the unit he served with. He died childless, and his remarried widow is also deceased. The only information I have on his service is a newspaper clipping about his death in 1948 from the Daily Oklahoman. The article only states that he was serving in the OK Air Guard out of Norman at the time. I have contacted the Oklahoma Adjudant General's office, and have been informed that his records with them do not include any information about his prior service in WWII, only his service record and service number for the Air Guard. Can anyone suggest how I can go about finding what unit he served with in WWII and hopefully find his service number? He was born and raised in Oklahoma City, so I assume he entered the service from Oklahoma as well. Thank you. Deborah Salmon King

Yes, I have a photo, but not on disk. I will take one this week and send it when I get them developed. Thanks. Betty Nipper Emery
Hello Betty, On the OK-Vets site that I maintain, there has to be a tombstone photo along with the information. Do you have a photo of the stone? Rules and more rules that I must follow.... I will keep the info that you sent, and wait for your reply. Thanks!
