RootsWeb is in the process of switching over to new upgraded list management software. This list has been switched. For list subscribers, the changeover should be smooth. The changes primarily involve the administration tools that keep the list running behind the scenes. The list name is changing from LISTNAME-L to just LISTNAME. So you may subscribe or unsub by sending your request to: LISTNAME-request@rootsweb.com with one exception. If you wish to subscribe in Digest mode you must send your subscribe request to LISTNAME-D-request@rootsweb.com . You may also continue sending your requests as you always have--either will work. The word SUBSCRIBE or UNSUBSCRIBE must be included in the subject and may also be included in the message body. Digest subscribers will notice some changes to the list digests. New instructions will be added to the digests -- please read them. In addition, the digest volume and issue number may be different (out of sequence) from what you had been receiving. If your digests arrive in a different format than you are used to and you would like it changed, contact me privately at the list admin address: LISTNAME-admin@rootsweb.com. Also, if you run into any unusual or confusing occurrences with mail from this list that could possibly be related to the changeover, let me know. If you use email headers to filter list mail to a special folder in your email program you may need to check whether your filters will need tweaking under the new system. If you previously subscribed to the list in both L and D modes using the same email address you will find that you are no longer subbed in Digest mode. The new software doesn't permit the same address to be subbed in both L and D modes. Therefore, if you wish to receive both modes, you will need to subscribe to the digests using a different email address. Please continue to send your queries, data, and responses to the list as usual. It is a great time to post a new query to try to break down those brick walls. Thanks! Plans for the move of the Oklahoma Historical Society Research Division to the new Oklahoma History Center were announced Monday evening (Jan. 9th) by Executive Director Dr. Bob Blackburn, Division Director Bill Welge, and Public Services Director Laura Martin in a meeting with the Oklahoma Genealogical Society Board of Directors. Mr. Welge and Mrs. Marquardt stayed to make the announcement to those in attendance at the General Meeting. The Research Library will close to the public Wednesday, March 1, 2006, to make the move to the Oklahoma History Research Center in the new OHC building located at the northeast corner of NW 23rd and N. Lincoln Blvd. The new address is 2401 N. Laird, Oklahoma City, OK 73105. The new research facility will be open to the public in mid April 2006. The research staff will be working extremely hard during the 4 to 6 week closure to ensure that the researchers have everything available when the new center opens. Plans are being formulated for the gala Grand Opening Celebration to take place some evening during the week of April 17-21. Those wishing to receive an invitation to the gala may send an email stating that to okgensoc@aol.com . Please include your name and complete mailing address. Moving plans were completed after Dr. Blackburn received assurances from the Governor and legislative leaders that a supplemental appropriation was planned for the new History Center to cover the personnel expenses that were not taken care of during the last legislative session. A supplemental appropriation will allow the move to occur before the June date that would have occurred under a regular appropriation. The physical move will be a monumental task. You can help with the move in several ways. 1. Write your state senator and representative to encourage their awareness of how much a supplemental appropriation is needed. You can find contact information for your elected representatives at: http://www.lsb.state.ok.us/ A letter to the Governor would also encourage his commitment to this endeavor. His website at http://www.governor.state.ok.us/ will list his contact information. 2. Be ready to contact those at the State Capitol by phone or in person if the need should develop. Your support in the past has made a huge difference in what happens there. The call for help will come by email should the need arise. 3. Delay making donations of books or other materials until after the physical move has been made. The staff have enough to handle without also processing new acquisitions. 4. Do make any monetary donations now! The needs are still great and many fund raising options are ongoing. Contact Tim Zwink, OHS Director of Development, at 405-522-5217 or tzwink@ok-history.mus.ok.us. for details about those options. 5. Volunteer to assist in the move by contacting Laura Martin at 405-522-5225. There are still needs for those with computer and organizational skills. Persons who can physically move and pack books and microfilm rolls are needed. Please keep your own physical abilities in mind and remember to take care of your own well being. Thank you for your assistance with this major endeavor. All researchers look forward to the opening of this wonderful new research facility and appreciate your efforts. Sorry I can't help. My family migrated to OK from Iowa around 1893. -----Original Message----- From: S Lee <ihunt4kin@hotmail.com> To: OK-MIGRATION-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Sun, 18 Dec 2005 18:54:39 -0600 Subject: [OK-MIGRATIONS] Please help I'm trying to locate my grandpa's sister who was orphaned at a young age and moved to OK Territory with her foster parents. This move would have been around 1891-1900 from Limestone Co, AL. Can anyone tell me if there were other families who moved from AL to OK about that timeframe? If so, was there a specific area in OK Territory they settled? This is really a tough mission because I have very little to go on. All I know is that her name was Anis Verona GRISHAM b 1886 in AL and orphaned in 1991. I do not know the name of the family that adopted her. I don't know if she took their name or kept her GRISHAM name until she married. Can anyone out there offer me any leads? Thanks! I am researching for a friend and have a notation of one Isaac Vincent who never returned (assumed died) while traveling to Red river about 1830 oe 1831. He left a wife and 8 children in Clarke Co. Ga. Just wondered what the picture waas at that time. I read where many whites started going into the territory but it also mentioned Cherokee who voluntarily left the No. Ga. and SC NC areas prior to the 1838 removal. Any accitional information would be appreciated as to the history and any records of migratins of that period. I was of the understanding that few people traveled alone at that time but usually traveled in groups. Thanks in advance. Lori

I know that a lot of you really enjoy the occasional chats held at ArkansasFamilies.net, and I have been thinking that since we don't always have time for them, and since no time is convenient for everyone, that perhaps we should create a mailing list to make up for that. A place to share genealogy info, tips, hints, personal histories, anecdotes, and any information you may want to share. Discussing of all things Arkansas, from Arkansas surnames to Southern recipes, old stories, photos and folklore. And hopefully, a place to find lost relatives.....This is the next best thing to dropping by a cousins' for coffee! :o) Keep in mind, this list WILL accept attachments, (i.e. photos, documents, etc...) but the way the list will be set up, there is no chance of virus' making it through.
